  1. Re:Maybe 4 bombs on Six Bomb Blasts Around Central London · · Score: 1

The correct statement would be "The war on terrorism DID NOT prevent this."

In any war there are victories and losses. There are attacks launched by both sides. To say that this attack was triggered by the war on terrorism is really one of those "no shit, sherlock" moments. The war is not over and both sides will continue to attack. Do you think the terrorist attacks will stop if we stop fighting back. They will only stop when their agenda is met or they are beat to a pulp so much that they can't function anymore. Remember, the WTC and Pentagon were attacked before we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. There are some generally accepted ideas about what Bin Laden and Al Qaeda want, but I don't see many people suggesting that we should acquiesce.

An interesting question to ask is: How many terrorist attacks have been stopped or discouraged by the war on terrorism? You have to remember that this is not just a war fought by soldiers on a battlefield. There is a massive effort to locate and destroy the terrorists ability to function (money, communications, etc.) That being said, the retaliatory invasions in Afghanistan and Iraq have certainly made terrorists less likely to attack. If you get kicked in the balls every time you pinch the guy sitting next to you, you tend to stop pinching so often.

That's interesting, the first thing that popped into my head was that DUI is a serious offense, and this is an absurd decision by the judges. IANAL by any definition, but I don't think they should have to reveal source code to prove to the public that it works. What you need is independent testing that shows the effectiveness of the device. A breathalizer is supposed to give a measurement of blood alcohol content. You don't need to see the source code to figure out if the machine is working.

This is a ridiculous reason to let offenders get away with it. What a waste of the state's time and money.

If you RTFA, that is a misquote and out of context. The word "even" does not appear in the original quote, and the meaning is quite different if you read it in context.

    Correct Version:
"public morality is not a legitimate state interest sufficient to justify infringing on adult, private, consentual, sexual conduct, even if that conduct is deemed offensive to the general public's sense of morality."

Notice that this restricts the scope to sexual conduct.

By the way, you don't have to live your life according to anyone else's beliefs. However, I suggest you don't murder anyone, because the majority of us frown upon that, and we will punish you if we catch you. I admit this is an extreme example, but when we get down to some of the issues that 99 percent of the population don't feel the same way about, we run into the issue of me applying my morality to you.

"you are stuck with the download manager"

I agree that the download manager is annoying, and in my opinion unnecessary. Also, Firefox used to give a much more accurate indication of your current download rate. It now seems that they use the same method as IE which takes an average over the entire download instead of smaller samples. This usually leads to a false indication at the beginning of a very high rate download that slowly approaches the actual value.
