How often are the police held accountable for anything they do? In LA during the Rampart scandal out of the dozens named none were fired or charged except the whistle blower. He was fired and threatened. I saw video tape of a cop in LA slamming an unconscious kid against the hood of a car. He was beaten unconscious before the camera was turned on then woke up when he was slammed against the car. No charges were filed but they did arrest the guy filming it. There have been numerous cases of unarmed people shot to death by the police for misdemeanors. I can name dozes of cases personally but trying to think of one where a police officer was held accountable for his actions is difficult.

A clone can be taller or shorter and It may look almost exactly the same but even identical twin have slight differences so family and friends can pick them out. Remember the search for the northwest passage? We now call that summer in the arctic. Once in a 100 year storms seem to happen every three years now. Denial is easy because it doesn't require you to change anything. The great myth is humans have always lived the way we do now and will keep living this way for tens of thousands of years. A hundred years ago most people didn't have electricity, indoor plumbing or a telephone. Radio was also years off and TV was decades away. Few people owned cars and a long trip was 20 miles, most people traveled less than a mile a day. Fast forward a hundred years and people whine that 200 or 300 miles is too short a range for cars and can't imagine living without a cell phone even though they were rare just 20 years ago. If in a hundred years we can go from horses and out houses and getting our water out of a well with a bucket what will happen in the next hundred years? Do we get flying cars or do we go back to the horse with an out house and water from a well with a bucket? I think that's the decision we are facing and not mending our ways doesn't mean flying cars it means going back to dying in our 30s and 40s and worrying where our next meal is coming from since we can't all go back to farming. The only sure thing is the world a 100 years from now won't resemble the one today!

Let's be realistic, Tesla has never released an economy car for good reasons so the same comments could be made of any higher end car. Tesla has focused on range and top end performance. They can't win this argument because if they release an economy car it will still be fairly pricey and people will complain about range and performance. It's an early adopter company and we will all benefit in the end as costs drop. They want to make money and at this point Elon Musk needs to make money because he invested most of his cash in these high end risky ventures so they would make an economy car if they could. Most of the talk I hear is it's less convenient so it should be cheaper. That's unlikely to ever happen and it ignores the other advantages. You might as well say I won't buy a gasoline car unless I can refuel it at home and gas cost less than a $1 a gallon, just to be fair. Most electric car owners love the fact they can refuel at home and electricity is cheaper not because it's a better fuel source but internal combustion engines are really inefficient when they don't run at a constant speed. It's why hybrids running an undersized gas or diesel engine to charge batteries has been my favorite. The truth is all the Tesla cars have been on par or better with the performance you'd expect for the price range. That is impressive. If you are holding out for a 15K Model S then you might as well hold out for a 15K Mercedes Sedan!

There is no chance of them financially turning the country around within a generation and they are facing a complete collapse within a generation or less no matter what. They could be staring at the 60 billion we just blew rebuidling Iraq and we have only started there. It may be worth loosing a few hundred thousand lives for a 60+ billion dollar payday. If they loose a city or two we'll rebuild them and since around 20 billion went missing in Iraq between the war and the rebuild there will be lots of money to steal. Say they launch a nuke that blows up half way across the Pacific and we retaliate wiping out a city. They surrender conditionally, their leaders get some protections essentially, and they plead dire hardship due to the "war". We start shipping in food and building materials and Little Kim Jr retires to EuroDisney with a few billion in his pocket and is forced to live in exile. The remaining leaders line their pockets and we update all their factories and bring the rest of the country into the 20th century. Guarantees of not bringing Little Kim Jr to trial is the iffy potential deal breaker but the rest of the scenario sounds a lot like what happened in Iraq although Iraq was already a wealthy country. Kim could just hop the border to China who would likely set him up in a palace with what money he could steal and he could cut a deal with the remaining crooks to send him a cut of what they steal in exchange for arranging exits to China if the need arose.

Why is this important? If it happened twice in this same system then the odds of life outside of this system go through the roof and I'd hazard to say they are a 100%. It proves if life can happen it will happen so intelligent life also gets a massive boast. Maybe SETI would get real funding and a starship proposal would get taken seriously.
