Well, if they have that then I'm going to apply for a patent on customizing old game consoles with a non-contemporary operating systems based on x86 systems. Surely no one else has thought of that. Contact me to talk about licensing.
Sure, everyone 15 years ago thought 4 GB of memory would be PLENTY. But how about in another 15 years? Will an exabyte of memory still be able to run the highest end applications including Microsoft Office 2017?
I normally play civ2/3 in the back seat of the car on long trips, but hey- as if I'm not wired enough I need wireless internet access too.
Hopefully pricing would be decent (if this does actually come) or at least you could buy it in a timeblock (let's see- I've got a road trip the 3rd week of August, and then book that time).
what is to stop someone slipping in any old url [slashdot.org] if no one can check the list?
WHAT IF THEY ALREADY DID?!
How are we to know if they can't see this if they can't access it. Perhaps already slashdot is being blocked around the world while innocent millions go on believing otherwise!
...for people who have been downloading x-box games to actually get to play them. for about a month a couple of "groups" have been releasing x-box titles (some of which they say can be played on cd-r's although dvd's are suggested). however, apparently the only systems they work on are x-box "developer" systems (I'm assuming the console that game developers get to test on) and "prototype modchips."
the price does seem a tad high considering what playstation modchips cost now-adays, however, you pay a premium for the newest and it appears that playstation 2 modchips still cost ~$50.
"They'll have a longer product cycle (Macs last forever and retain their value much better than cobbled-together PCs), which means the district won't have to upgrade their hardware nearly as often."
Maybe that's because Macs lag so far behind pc's in hardware performance that there aren't any apps that will need more power since the power wouldn't be there. "Yeah, our G3's run at least as fast as an equivalent pentium 3 with twice the clock speed," sure. I would almost bet my life that someone who had to look over that little campaign laughed a little to themselves at what a lie it truly was.
I started reading the translated letter and at first they kept talking about "the Bill." I thought perhaps due to some translation problems they were referring to Bill Gates. However, after reading more I realizer they were talking about the bill themselves.
It almost sounded as if they were referring to him as some sort of unhuman thing.
Did anyone think that just maybe Bill Gates himself didn't order this? Half the posts I see are Bill this, Bill that. I'm pretty sure every single thing that Microsoft does doesn't have to go through him. Random employee: "Uhh, sir, we're out of coffee, is it ok if we go get some more from the store room." Random boss: "Let me call up Mr. Gates to clear it with him."
Opera has been proven to work GREAT as an EMBEDDED browser, while Mozilla is great, I'm not sure it is as good as Opera in the embedded marked. Just because it's open source doesn't mean it's better, even when you're using Linux.
Reasons that they're top games: broad user base generally priced lower faster (although seeing the sims still $30 shocks me) many of them produced and many flops
then there's also top violent games that do quite well. you have probably an equal proportion of non-violent game flops to successes as you do in the violent game market.
I know my ISP's AUP doesn't allow ANY servers of ANY type (which is rediculous, but I know for a fact that whining will get me nowhere with them). One of the ways they do this is to actually block anything coming in on port 80 to block an http server. Of course, I just change the port, but it could very well be that your isp just doesn't want you running a server and is trying to find an automated solution to stop most people.
I quote, "Thanks to profit sharing, some employees make $450,000 to $600,000 in a good year. With such pay, the company expects employees to put in long, hard hours, says Todd Hollenshead." That's why no one ever wonders why John Romero no longer works at id.
This OS looks quite good for an OS I've never heard of. On top of that, the programs that it has (mozilla, python, apache, etc) is nothing to laugh at. From the screenshots the GUI is more or less polished (although not as much as other os's). As noted by the reviewer, the real time processing presents problems with running more than one application.
I'll definitely look into this and see how it runs on an old computer.
well, not sure how bigger is that much better

Sure, lots and lots of people to play, but I honestly don't see how this would be any more fun than going to a LAN for one specific game and having much fewer people. That way competition will be good, tips will be shared, and it is a more personal experience. If I wanted to join this many people I'd just fire up my game server browser and pick one of the thousands of Half-Life games going and play there.

hey, I'm going to be a loving parent- my kids need internet access when *I'm* driving.
If we subtract the 'free' software total from that sum, how much is Microsoft actually contributing? $5?
This seems eerily similar to that settlement involving 'free' software to public schools.
actually- you don't own it, microsoft just 'licenses it to you'. selling it would be unamerican and go against everything our ideals stand for.

[no, I wasn't serious]
you should only support the site if it funnels any money made to nicaraguan rebels to help fight the good fight.

Yes, and we all know my old 486 should still be good enough today for everything.
...I'm going to go load up quake 3 on it now and play with 100fps full screen antialiased.
everyone knows you're not going to find a hack on some search engine. we are truly living in a sad, sad world.

make that 4,290,001 sites listed on google with the word warez in them.

Here in the United States I've never seen one TV commercial for it. I suppose it's just different marketing schemes for different markets.

..or any other online game for that matter.
In other, semi-related news, I am my own father and mother.
It'd be nice to be a nice, young, chunk of cancerous cells. At least that way I'd still look not a day older than 20.
