Don't be the billionth M$ hater sitting around with friends chanting "Wouldn't it be soo funny to see Linux on a Microsoft machine?"

  7. Toshiba Laptops on Comparative Laptop Reviews? · · Score: 1

Toshiba Laptops are some of the best laptops I've ever worked with. The integrated periferials make these laptops very mobile. This really helps out our users who are running from site to site.

Thus far, Toshiba's warranty is one of the best I've ever worked with from and IT standpoint. The 3 year system guard protects against virtually everything on the machine. Service for these laptops has also been very flexible. It has been my experience that as long as it's not a vital part (motherboard, lcd screen, etc.) the replacement parts can be shipped out to you. That in itself saves a TON of heartache especially when a big whig has a bad cd drive.

And yes, you can get WiFi and Bluetooth on the new Portege models as well as the Satellite Pro 6100's.

"It just seems like he's jumping on the cloning bandwagon we've been seeing lately in sciencefiction."

Sure Lucas is jumping on the bandwagon... if that started almost 30 years ago! The clone wars were mentioned as early as "A New Hope" and were then documented in the "Behind the magic" CD that came out around the time of the "Special Edition" theatrical releases. If anything Lucas has perfect timing. Cloning is just now coming into perspective in real life. It will either help or hinder us. That's what these movies were originially meant to be about. On topic for modern day issues but happening "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

But why does anyone (on this site) care if Windows has vuneribilities and how they handle them? This site is viewed by a majority of users using alternate OS's is it not? It seems as if the only reason stories like these are posted are to poke fun at Windows and how inferior it is. Thus giving the open source community more and more reason to light a cigar, drink brandy, and pat themselves on the back.

One could argue that the reason stories like this are posted is because there are some Windows users viewing this site. To me, this isn't the case. Microsoft is looked upon (On this site, respectively.) as the bully who made fun of you growing up. So in order to avenge years of "Poopy Pants", findings of bugs and basicially flame articles are posted.

I'm not going to say the authors of slashdot need to stop doing this. If that were the case I'd simply just not view the site. All I'm asking is for the authors to lighten up, or atleast change the logo to something more conservative.

  24. The cubicle of doooooom...... on Slashdot Ghost Stories? · · Score: 1

There was once a lady who would constantly bug me about a bogus new mail notification popping up on her screen. I constantly avoided this, not because of any disrepect but because I had other things I needed to be dealing with.

One day, I had some free time to spare and decided I should go ahead and fix her little glitch. I was shocked to see the paramedics taking her out on a stretcher. We were all shocked so we left work early.

We never went to the cubicle again, particially because of the eerie and cold tone is let off. Also partly because it was apart of the vacant warehouse area.

One night. I was working late on a network issue and had to make sure all machines were properly shut down. Out of habit, I went by the ladies cubicle. I was shocked to see what appeared to be a dialoge box. I took out my mini flashlight and inspected it further, it was a dialoge box!

Sometimes I go by the cubicle to inspect the area, making sure nothing has been stolen and what not. But there are sometimes I walk by and the sun is hitting the monitor at just the right spot. It illuminates the screen so much infact you can almost make out the message burned onto the screen:

"New mail has arrived. Would you like to read it now?"
