I never worry too much about Windows and MS...as long as they are not backed / enforced by the type of legislation mentioned in the post, you still have a CHOICE. And as far as I am concerned, the more DRM and cripling technologies that MS puts in its OS, the more I and other users will be switching to Linux (I am about half and half these days).
Wouldnt this essentially make it so that the people who are PAYING for content are the ones who are proofreading it and checking for errors? If thats the case, I would rather wait the couple hours to get the good, proofread, error checked version from the silly subscribers!!!
ok ok ok, this is becoming unnecessarily confusing. Lets just do this...
1. implant chip in everyone's head with a unique id of somesort. Make it as many digits / alpha as you please. this will be government issued.
2. create a new type of internet...we will call it "the grid".
3. hook it up so that every person is on "the grid" can "see" each other. think AOL instant messenger, complete with buddy lists.
4. you can "call" anyone on your buddy list, in real time and speak via an ethereal telepathic connection, with traffic being monitored and controlled by "the net" (for performance reasons, as well as to keep the terrorists out)

I have only had once instance of this unreliability that lead to anything negative (?) happening. This girl swore up and down I was ignoring her when she finally got me on the phone but I KNOW that message never made it through. Never mind that I was ignoring all her calls..you know how it is when you have all those girls calling and you just dont have the time for ALL of them....
All you folks that complain that authors should get paid to put up content is CRAP. If you dont want to take the time to share info that is readily at your fingertips with the rest of the web, then simply DONT PUBLISH IT, ITS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME - someone else WILL. The intent of the internet is not to give people a job to post "how to string a guitar" and "12 ways to improve your forehand in tennis". Also, please see prices for bandwidth in Korea and Japan post above.
Looks to me like this has a lot to do with perception. PArt of MS' deal is that they have lots of mindshare. If the people realize that they HAVE options in terms of office and OS, then they certainly will at least explore those options. MS needs to keep people thinking that MS is the only way to get something done, so this memo is no surprise IMHO. Interesting though anyway.
I've got mod points, and I would mod you down as overrated (because you are) but then it would be obivious to the metamods that I am just a frustrated geek, who doesnt get any, who is tired of people reminding me that I dont get any.
I have found that the odd numbered releases have been better. 7.3 was great, 7.1 was also good, but 7.0 was really awful out of the box. I remember having to mess with it a lot to get it working though I dont remember what now. 8.0 is a little weird too - there are some problems with the RPM database (fixable by rebuilding, but still) and also with rpm segfaulting.
And i CAN NOT figure out how to add new window managers to gdm. Cannot find documentation. I dont know whats up with that. I must be missing something really obvious on that one.
Let them get ideas...ill just stop using the service. When everyone stops using it and it effectivley becomes dead, will they make it free again? And if not, we can probably live without it. Cheers!

Because some countries made lots o bad decisions aint my fucking problem. Until someone can post a solution, you arent any better than the people complaining about bobble dolls.
Someone that comes to this country has a shot to make it - entrpenurial or otherwise. Get educated, get hired - work hard. That is what makes it great here, or at least better than a lot of other places (that you are whining on behalf of). If other countries created that sort of environement for their population rather than exploiting them, then maybe Id give more than 2 seconds thought about them. Feel free to try and prove me wrong.
I feel that since I already pay for the hardware to surf the net, and the expensive connection, I should not be subjected to intrusive advertising. Add that to the fact that some providers will start capping your data and it ammounts to just plain frustrating. Frankly, I dont care if most of the sites cant afford to stay in business without adds. There are too many sites that suck anyway, and too many lazy web masters trying to stay at home and get paid to write rants (see Something Awful). Find another model. (like membership plans, selling Tshirts, bake sales, I dont care) I mean, if you like the site, you'll support it.

Instead, if I like something, I buy the DVD. That way, I own it, and can watch it whenever I want. Most DVDs that I buy are in the 9$ section, so i end up saving money than by purchasing cable for 45$ a month.
