The timezone does not force kids go to the school at the same time all over India. Stupid people do.
IMHO having a single timezone and not having to deal with conversions is mostly beneficial. But you need to let go of the idea that everyone works from 9 to 5 or goes to school at a set time.
In the tiny Netherlands, which is certainly within a single timezone, schools vary their starting times however they see fit. Even their holidays vary, though that is determined regionally and not per school.
The iPhone SE is small, yet quite powerful. That can make it an attractive phone for those who want to carry less without compromising too much on functionality. It's an awesome compact phone.
But it's that functionality that disqualifies it as a minimalist phone in my book. The functionality comes at a cost that a typical minimalist seeks to eliminate.
I'm thinking complex configuration (by minimalist standards), worrying about charging, maintenance (app updates, etc.), relative high cost for what one really needs, etc.
I carry an iPhone X and Pixel 2 XL usually, but when I go minimalist (for a trip or day off) I resort to a cheap second hand Blackberry Q5. People can call or text me, and in case of an emergency the web, e-mail and company VPN work too.
When a person recognises another person's face we usually mean to say that they've seen the person before and/or can possibly identify the person.
This slashdot article suggests that something else is meant here: gender and race recognition. Is that indeed the case? Are we asking law-enforcement systems to identify gender and race?
If so, to what end? To find people based that match often vague descriptions?
I'm probably being a moron for not realising this until now. All this time I thought they were just looking to match people on the street with photos of people that are "wanted".
Obviously the LF didn't magically conjur up this money. It's given to them by many corporations who benefit from Linux and want to ensure its continued development. They could pay Linus directly, but the indirect route avoids allegations of bias and favoritism towards specific companies.
Bottom line: create something that multiple companies benefit from, something that they could not easily fork and continue in-house, and money will flow your way. Just keep in mind that 1.6 million is a mere fraction of the money made with Linux based products. How much would your product deliver?
Frankly, I think this has very little to do with women or any other underrepresented group. It's mostly about a small group of loudmouths who believe that they know what's best for everybody. It's a power-play for no other reason than self-gratification.
I've had the privilege of working under female leadership on multiple occasions. Their immunity various complaints that men have to be wary of allows them to be blunt, direct, strict and extremely demanding. It was eye-opening and refreshing. I have a feeling female Linus would just laugh at all of this.
People are weird like that. Being cheap on their food, bed, work equipment and other thing that actually matter while lavishly spending on all kinds of nonsense.
Nonsense. The only people still on Facebook in my European family are all 50+. Everything younger moved to Instagram, Snapchat or simply gave up on the idea.
What I do see is that many "official" entities tend to lag behind. Governments and local shops have embraced Facebook now that everybody else has moved on to other places. They're catching on though. They will close this lag gap eventually.
USENET could function as a back-end to something more user-friendly that incorporates media-elements, etc.
The biggest problem I see is that USENET doesn't allow random people to create new groups. Even if your USENET admin does allow you to do so, there's no guarantee that your new group propagates.
This can be solved, of course, but I'm pretty sure that once people start tinkering at that level they'll end up with something that can no-longer be called USENET.
As a Dutch person myself, I'm quite sure this is mostly (if not completely) propaganda. The original story provides 0 proof of anything and shows several inconsistencies.
Sugar is just one of many sources of carbohydrates. You may want to try cutting them altogether. I won't claim it's the magic cure-all, but it certainly fixed a lot of issues for me. (I eat 15g carbs/day.)
Go watch his FULL UNEDITED press conference. He was asking for existing materials (if any) to be released. He was not asking anyone to go and hack them now.
In case you didn't hear: Hillary deleted her e-mails and her server was handed over to the FBI. There's simply no way to hack those e-mails anymore. It's really not very hard to understand. They can only be released from existing materials, if those exist.
Hillary's e-mails have already been deleted. No "hack attack" is going to reveal them. The suggestion that a hack is wanted to reveal the e-mails (made by the press, not Trump) is plain ignorant.
If you go back and look at Trump's speech he wasn't anyone asking to go and hack. He simply asked that if someone has those e-mails already (from older hacks), to please share them.
Interestingly, the cities that aggressively banned motorcycles are also increasingly restricting and/or banning e-bikes. Apparently their stealthiness makes them ideal for robbers snatching your bag or phone and disappearing quickly. They're also just as annoying and dangerous as motorcycles when it comes to driver behaviour and mixing with other traffic.
Summarised: their lower impact on the environment doesn't make them good citizens.
Nice story, but offering Hulu to people doesn't mean the industry has to lose money. All Hulu has to do is verify people's real address and serve them relevant ads. If someone uses a VPN, charge them 50 cents so their credit card issuer reveals their country of residence. Hell, charge them a Netflix-like amount of $7.99. Keep in mind that all these VPN'ers are already shelling out cash to their VPN, VPS or DNS service. Money is NOT the issue here.
Marriage itself is designed to make non-married people second class citizens. Wanting to get married, getting married or supporting the concept of marriage is working to actively take away rights from people who do not wish to live their life married. Just look at how many laws and regulations are designed to favour married couples. It's ridiculous.
The people at Mozilla are hypocrites. For years they've been working for this guy. He was a fucking co-founder of Mozilla, then Lead Technologist, then CTO! He has always been one of their primary leaders. Where was the outcry all this time? Why did these people even join the Mozilla that he co-founded? Apparently it's fine to have an anti-gay boss as long as the world doesn't see him. All they care about is their own image.
This question is very easy to answer if you know why dropbox was blocked in the first place.
Get this: * I was living in China, happily using Dropbox. * Suddenly Dropbox tells me it can't connect. * Did some digging with tcpdump, traceroute, etc. You know. Nerd stuff. * Turns out that our of Drop boxes entire IP range, only 1 IP was blocked. * This IP happened to be the login or authentication server that the client occasionally connects to. * As it happens, the SAME IP was used for Dropbox website. * It seemed likely to me that the website was the target of the block, not the login server for the client. * So I check the Dropbox forum on its website (using VPN) and what do I see there: SONG TEXTS OF TIBETAN NATIONALISTS
Yes, so Dropbox was blocked because some nitwit decided it was a good place to post some pro-tibet/anti-china texts. How do you get unblocked in China? Remove the offending text and change your IP address (or wait a really long time.)
You're absolutely correct. It's true for most software though. Rarely have I updated a piece of software and found it to be faster than the previous version.
I felt cheated as well, when I found out I needed another Season Pass. But this feeling passed quickly when I noticed that Season 5 was significantly cheaper than previous seasons. The per-episode price didn't really change.
Given the replies from some Indian slashdotters, they do seem to have it figured out afterall. Which makes you wonder WTH this article is about.

A modest killfile will rid you of most USENET spam.
The user-interfaces built on top of USENET could also choose to plugin to some kind of SPAM filtering API.
It's not rocket science. The big issue is that choosing and employing these filters should be your choice, not the platform's.
USENET could function as a back-end to something more user-friendly that incorporates media-elements, etc.

Doubtful. Slaves usually outnumber the rich in these places, if only to tend to their every need.

BS. Please use Google. Many how-to's, no jail break required.
I felt cheated as well, when I found out I needed another Season Pass. But this feeling passed quickly when I noticed that Season 5 was significantly cheaper than previous seasons. The per-episode price didn't really change.
Just because Google applied for .app doesn't mean they'll get it. I'm pretty sure Apple and a ton of other companies also applied for it.
I wonder if that's true.
For websites I don't know I always use search already. That's simply how that works.
For websites I do know I simply starting: s, l, a, s, h until my browser fetched slashdot.org from my browser history at which point I hit Enter.
Whether the website ends it .com, .org or .vague doesn't matter for my usage pattern. Am I that special?
