..and if you weigh in the generous figures that: 10% of the population are letter-writing grandmas 20% of the population are poor parents that write letters of complaint 30% of the population couldn't have fun if they tried, but do write letters of complaint
then the statistic is proves that even the narky people don't care!
As I recall, the DoD bust happened almost 8 years ago. (I remember friends throwing harddrives in rivers..) Other people from this bust, and from the relating 'fallout' busts have been nabbed, tried and sentances served by now.
As a cynic, you have to ask: Will he be tried in accordance to the precedents of the others [in a world minus DMCA and 'terroristm', MPAA fury etc], or is a large public justification required for what was by account a deep investment by the US government?
Add Sumsung to the list. I had / have two of their 19" LCDs. One of them started ghosting / burning in.
I rang them, they told me that my models were no longer being made - waited for the kiss off - but instead, the next day a samsung rep arrived with two boxes - and replaced both monitors w/ the newer models - no questions asked, no cost.
This sucks so badly. I'd had my F717 for years, and it worked perfectly. Suddenly, it started doing the weird LCD trick. I kept it for 6 months more, waiting to see if there was some type of common solution - then finally threw it out 2 months ago.
I have found one of the handiest uses for Wiki, in a research context, is to use the article as general background - and then use the sources for your reliable information.
Seems to be one of the more reliable ways to research.
Here's one: Setup your paypal account. Put some money into it. Notice people are currently trying to hack your bank and epassporte accounts. Ring PayPal, advise them that this situation is happening. Have PayPal assure you your account is safe. No less than three days later, have your account shutdown for 'fraudulent activities'. Ring PayPal - have them tell you they can't and won't talk about it, and they have no record of your call of ID XYZ that you took down the first time.
Do you a) Blame Paypal for being useless, or b) Blame a third party?
How would that work? I thought the key in the hardware token was constantly changing - not something that can be implemented in a standard hard drive.
I'm no expert, but RSA tags basically boil down to simple 'random' number generators, seeded with a common file, and time synced. There are multiple 'soft' solutions for tags (to prevent actually having to carry real dongle.)
I'd take a stab at saying the major problem with this implementation would be keeping the clocks in sync, as it's my guestimation that the average pc that doesn't ust NTP drifts a hell of a lot.
I feel obligated to advise all those more humourous than I: Top points will be awarded for the person who can tie in an 'escargot' pun. Extra points if it bashes the french.
I actually carry about $20k worth of camera gear (Canon 1ds + lenses, hasselblad xpan2 + lenses + accessories) + laptops etc.
Even on the exceedingly pokey US domestic planes, I've never had to check my camera gear. I simply say: I have $x,000 of camera gear. I'm not checking it.
If you fly through frequently outside of the US, or are not natively from the US, you've probably notice how many rights you don't have when flying into (or through) the USA.
From compulsory finger-printing, mugshots etc - to being refused entry even for those with a no-record criminal record, it seems a little strange.
That said, the TSA appear to be a law unto themselves - the debacle over bag locks is a prime example. We are told (Australians in particular after the Corby case) to secure bags as much as you can. That said - if you lock a bag, the TSA unlock it forceably - or in the case of myself, remove both zips and leave the suitcase open. You can purchase a TSA approved lock, that lets in anyone w/ a master key (hah). If you're lucky, you'll receive a 'We went through your shit. If we broke something, sorry, but we're not responsible.' message.
Totally unacceptable.
To the point: I've had bags broken and broken into. I've locked them w/ zip ties, and provided spares with notes asking for them to kindly reseal the bag - and got a broken bag back w/ zipties removed.
I've travelled frequently - and here's my synopsis of phone useage and planes - if I may:
Australia: Phones are off all the way. When disembarking up the walkway, you'll start to hear SMS messages come in. Hong-Kong: Touchdown, SMSs are in. Calls being made while disembarking. USA: Calls made until the plane taxis, calls made the instant the plane lands. Europe [Denmark, France]: SMS on disembark UK: SMS the instant the plane hits Japan: Not a peep. Those guys actually know how to use the vibrate setting.
Of course the above is far from conclusive - but everytime I travel to the US I am still amazed how attached Americans are to their last desperate phone call before the phone takes off..
Any flavour of windows seems to run hot on a macbook. From what I've seen - unless you've got your minerals made out of.. minerals, there's no way you could bear to use one as a true 'laptop' whilst running windows, of any flavour.
I flew Hong Kong > France > UK last year. Obviously multiple X-Rays etc in between. My GF had a wooden birdcard (ie, you could see right through it) - and we got held up for at least 20 minutes.
Much to my shock, when we got to the UK, when I opened my bag, the knife (with a 6" blade no less) fell out of the top layoer of my carry-on luggage.
How they missed that multiple times, I'll never know.

Correct, I was assuming the date as 8 years ago when the DCMA wasn't in full swing, so I guess it makes sense then :)

I'm not sympatheic, I'm just curious.
Know your anime? Look good in a maid costume?
If yes, there's always work around akihabara!

These types of things suck.
Another reason PCs are better than consoles.
PCs have spell checkers. *hint*

From what I've read, there are a few solutions to fake the ACE authentication / process.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSA_SecurID has more info, I believe.

But it's not the cheap option.
Your generalisation is akin to saying all car drivers are hit-and-runners.
Completely.
Also unaddressed are IE bugs that allow js to create cookies that CAN'T be re-overwritten by legitimate pages.
Sure, but it contained no french bashing.
Shame on them.

Could it be as captivating as: http://www.booble.com/ ?

It's a futurama joke, FTLOG! Mod up so some geek can post the episode # and frame count!
