I have 20/20 vision. For development, I certainly like a nice dual-monitor setup at 1280x1024. For leisure (like right now), I vastly prefer sitting 7 feet away from my 36" tv in my comfy chair with a wireless keyboard on my lap.

I'm interested in a device that deaf people have -- that notices the phone ring, and turns on a strobe/siren light. That way I can know the phone is ringing, even when blasting music.

    Gimme.

I call bullshit. I've been computing almost exclusively on my 36" television for years. Some web text is occasionally too small, so I do view->text->larger (Which doesn't work with stylesheets -- GRR). But for the most part, I can read everything, including my 4NT ("dos") command line (at about 132 columns by 45 rows or so). And, as I've said before, porn looks great! Although a TV lacks the resolution of a monitor, skin tones and pictures look better due to some sort of airbrushing effect. Sort of like how adding a slight blur to a video clip can reduce the perception of electromagnetic interference that may be in the video.

Okay I'm rambling on a few different topics here. I really just wanted to call bullshit. I can read almost any text on any webpage from 15 feet away from my TV. And in those rare situations where it is too small, I've learned to read the shape of words much better too.

And there is no noticeable flicker. I also watch all my tv shows as AVI files like this.

Thank you for the clarification. Maybe it was an unprotected one. I don't really know either. :)

In 100% of situations, I prefer to have the data on my computer where it takes zero cubic space, than in a box which takes up much-needed space. All this stuff is on the internet. And when I view the downloaded box art, it would look alot nicer on my 36" television (primary monitor) than it on a 5" cardboard piece-o-trash box.

    Paper is obsolete.

To clarify, when I said "This paragraph", I meant paragraph #2.

And the cost I have always gotten for cds is 15 each, DVDs 61 each, which for me is 46M vs 73M per penny.

But I have not bought cds for over a year. That last batch of 1200 was it. I bought about 4000 or so and that's it. (Now, I've purchased over 600 DVD-Rs in the last year.)

To buy? Go to Pricewatch and click on media. My stated costs include shipping as discs are surprisingly heavy. I usually end up buying from AllMediaOutlet.

  19. Re:Growing Distros on Giant List Of Linux-based Live CDs · · Score: 2, Interesting
    CDs are not cheaper.

80 minute cds are about 10-15 cents each and store 700M. That gives 46-70 megs per penny. 4X blank DVD-Rs are 61-81 cents each and store 4485M. That is 56-73 megs per penny.

Time wise, DVD 1X burning is equivalent to CD 9.2X burning, I THINK. Which means the 16X burners coming out now burn data at a cd-recorder equivalent speed of 147.2X. Thus it not only saves money, but also burning time (And also labelling time and physical cubic space.)

My facts may be incorrect in this paragraph, but NOT the last one. A 4X burner can be had, shipped, for under $100.
