Let me surf for porn on my 36' TV. This alone should be enough to convert anyone. No need to read the rest of this post.
Let me create hundreds of different playlists for my mp3s, rather than burning them to disk.
In the rare event of missing a tv program, I can download shows in various obscure codecs (realplayer, xvid, divx5.latest, etc) and watch them on my 36' TV.
I can record video straight to AVI, using the capture codec I choose, the compression codec I choose, and the digital image processing plugins that I choose. No PVR gives you the flexibility of virtualdub. I compress shows to 150-400M apiece, and fit far more minutes of video on a 4.5G DVD-R than a standard DVD could ever hope to hold. (Yes, some quality loss, but MUCH better than VHS, and cheaper.)
No more buying blank VHS tapes either.
I can play Quake3 on my 36' TV.
I can record myself winning my favorite PlayStations game, then serve it up for downloads (okay, pulled that one out of my ass).
I can backup dvds and play the backups on the same screen (my 36' tv) that my dvd player (my ps2) is hooked up to.
I can play dvds much more reliably than with my PS2.
I can run emulators and play Atari, C64, etc, on the big tv, not on the lil monitor, as they were meant to originally be played.
I can choose my own OS. Can you tweak a hardware based player in the same way?
Upon system failure, I can simply replace the failed component rather than the whole thing.
By setting up Girder to control things via InfraRed remote, I can not only control my stereo, tv, and channel changing with my remote, but can also start/stop windows media player and basically use one remote for everything -- even pressing "ESC" or nudging my mousepointer around. Girder (www.girder.nl) and the IRMan (www.irman.com) work great together.
Last but not least: I AM A GEEK. I ALREADY OWN A COMPUTER. I WILL ALWAYS OWN A COMPUTER. Why pay extra for something that does what my computer can already do? HARDWARE PLAYERS ARE DEAD. GIVE IT UP FOLKS. IT'S A DYING BREED. Jump of the wagon NOW!
Anyone used the Girder win32 automation tool? It can take any input and do anything with it. Seriously. Plugins (read: device drivers) are still needed for hardware. For example, I use the X10 plugin to control my lights. Girder relays my infrared remote control signal into an internet event which triggers my X10 lights (which normally can't be controlled via infrared).
My point? There should be some sort of sex toy that can be controlled by girder and therefore via someone on the internet. That would be hot. Kind of. In a sterile, matrixy way. Anyone know of anything like this? Wife's birthday is coming up y'know.
Stand up for your rights, pussy, or they will be forever taken away. Federal law prohibits the prohibition of satellite dishes. I'm pretty sure they can't make you put down an unrefundable deposit either; that's just a strongarm tactic to force you to be a pussy. Stand up for your rights. Be the first to have a dish. I told my friend the same, he did, didn't pay the security deposit, and made waves -- after everyone else realized they didn't have to be pussies, they all got dishes in that complex. That's the real reason they use prohibitive fees -- they want to stop the "ugliness" of the dishes.
I have no idea what CMD does anymore. 4NT (which used to be called 4DOS, and before that, NDOS, part of norton utilities in the DOS age) had it YEARS before CMD/command.com did. You will enjoy it. The INI file can be a bitch but it's a once-in-a-lifetime effort.
You guys need to head on over to http://www.jpsoft.com and download the latest version of the 4NT command-line interpreter. Think of it as "Zsh for windows" (assuming you like zsh...).
Tab filename completion, aliases, the whole schebang. You pipe stuff together (Which works in command.com too BTW) and do whatever you want. Hell, just the script that defines my defualt environment variables is now about 10 pages. I'm more engrained in my windows command-line environment than my unix one.
Has anyone ever authored an application that can take ONE "song"/audio track, and separate each INSTRUMENT out into a separate track?
I know you can separate by frequency using Fast Fourier Transformations.... But that does not compensate for the fact that, for example, the highest note on a bass guitar is higher than the lowest note on a normal guitar.
When you buy keyboards, repeat-buy the same brand. In my experience, 60% of keyboards die due to the board dying, while 40% die due to the cord dying. If you buy multiple instances of the same brand, you can often combine cord-from-a-dead-board with board-with-a-dead-cord, turning 2 dead keyboards into 1 working keyboard. I've done this several times.
I'm very surprised by the percentage of men who will let themselves be pushed around like this. I can't help but think that most of these relationships are mismatched.
I appear to not be one of those mismatches, but only time will tell. (Though lasting 12 yrs as of age 30 is better than anyone I've ever met my age, period.)
Can you do that, and post the URL here? I'd like to see it.:) (And am too lazy to do it myself, but am curious to know if they progrmamed in something to stop a sort of "recursive search attack")
Downloading TV shows is quasi-legal, for americans downloading tv shows they already have cable access to (and have therefore paid for). I dunno how that works for Canadada though. Tell me the torrents!!

Okay maybe I do not know what that is.
But when I worked at the MCI Internet Engineering Dept, someone explained what HE called multicast. This was a network capacity planner, and the MCI (now Cable & Wireless) backbone at that time was the largest (I believe) in the country. I got the joy of staying late to provide the Dept Of Justice with traffic statistics when MCI was being audited prior to their merger with WorldCom. They placated the antitrust issues by selling my department to Cable & Wireless. I quit and came back to my same job a year later and quit again.
Oh sorry, Tangent mode was on.
Anyway, he said there was a way to send packet X to multiple receipients without having to send multiple packets. Basically the packets would create a "tunnel" (his word), and the tunnel would split and fork into 2 separate paths only when network topography made this manual. So the outgoing bandwidth cost of streaming a video to 500 users simultaneously would be identical to streaming a video to 1 user simultaneously. And bandwidth in general would be preserved. (This could be useful for webservers too, as they could avoid the slashdot effect.)
Hey R00zky, I am an American Kevin Spencer fan who has been cut off from my supply of episodes. My friends and I have all seen about 30 of the 60 or so episodes, BUT WE NEED MORE. They are not available in america, period. Do you know where I can get them? AVIs, VHS tapes, DVDs, anything! I'd mail you but your address was hidden. Thanks.
Neither of you appear to actually know. Could someone who does clarify please?
Yea. Let's adopt the Euro.

Why come here? Wasn't the Kent State Massacre pretty much the same thing?

Informative????! If you say so....
Thanks for the fscking unwarned spoilers.
I used to think that was how it was said for the first 20 years of my life too. Then, Marvel Comics educated me. A sad story.

I was given four (4). Thank you Dr. Mephisto.
Oh, I always lube my asses up with +++ before I ATZ them baby. (Thanks)
Excellent clarification.
Tell me or I will ATZ your ass!

I may be imagining all this. You tell me.

Could be. There was indeed a large CME (corona mass ejection) focused towards the earth this week. Perhaps it affected mars too.
