I'm doing a double reply.... there were about 10 mil GameGear units sold wordlwide. Comparatively, I know the original GameBoy sold at least 175mil units... I'm not sure of the exact number there, though.
Actually - the installed base of PSP's is now over 10 million units worldwide. That's a success, although Sony would have liked more I'm sure. It's still growing at a healthy rate as well.
We have our non-techies (and techies) use Perforce. The win32 client has lots of optins, but is simple enough to use if you don't do anything too crazy.
If your nontechies will only be syncing and modifying, it's a walk in the park.
I've been thinking about getting into amateur radio. A few problems, though - and I thought I'd solicit some advice.
a) I'm very urban-bound -- Vancouver, BC -- but a few blocks from the beach. b) very space limited.
What are my options? I understand I can use handheld radios, but what can I really accomplish with a unit that small? Are portable antennas a real option?
a) CompSci or EE degree. 4 years. b) Internship and show that you know how to apply the skills you SHOULD know. c) for god's sake, learn C++. If your school only teaches you Java, you're already left behind. d) have something interesting to show you're passionate about games! cool demos. cool anything. Just show that you KNOW gfx/physics/whatever you want to do.
This is kind of moronic... these caveats are in just about all public game companies SEC filings.
Bravo to the the above -- this is one of the more enlightened posts around here lately.
I needed diagnostic imaging done on my heart -- I was in within 1 week.
I didn't have to pay anything beyond what I've paid into the system.
Why is this news?
OP - go away.
I've been working for 9 years in game development.
I assure you, most of these game programs are laughed at.
Go CS degree, BS or Msc, and you'll do fine.
Even during that entire time, nobody stopped me from bringing my laptop...
Oh well. Security rocks.
What kind of moron would check his laptop?
Traditionally, region encoding was implemented because sometimes a developer would use different publishers for different regions.
Not so common anymore.
> Back when I was a nurse, in the days before programming sucked me in, I was a manager in a private elderly care home for people with dimentia.
Might be tasteless, but my current job and your former job somehow feel similar.
Look up 'SSDC' corp ticker. Good bunch of guys.
> vacuuming up small game companies
Aside from the Mythic acquisition, EA hasn't been purchasing companies.......
There's a sign at the city limits - "Vancouver is a nuclear weapons free zone."
Erm, ok.
I believe the PSOne was released in 1994 and is still in production, and I personally know professional developers who still develop for the platform.
Why on earth do those clowns hold conferences in the US? For goodness sake - hold the conventions in Mexico, or Antigua, or ANYPLACE else.
You might be surprised who'd be willing to present knowing they wouldn't be nabbed the moment before taking the stage.
I thought, "who said it was static?"
;)
That being said, both of those ideas mean we need some more probes.

It's sell through, not to retailers.

> Seriously. The PSP is niche at best
There are over 10 million PSPs worldwide in the hands of consumers... hardly niche.

I know this was supposed to be funny, but it won't work.
