In this particular case, there were 30 copies of the virus in the genome. They worked backward to create the original virus. The resultant virus was disabled so that, after replicating once in a cell, the daughter viruses could not replicate. So there was no risk.

Unfortunately, they used African sex-changing frog DNA to fill in the gaps and the daughter viruses chemically adjusted themselves to reproduce! Fortunately, the resultant virus is only dangerous to users of AOL and Xanga.

You don't mean "chemical", you mean "physical". Addiction to cocaine, heroin, cigarettes, alcohol (and others) can cause negative physical consequences when the body is physically addicted; in other words, the body has adapted to the presence of the drug, its no longer "normal" NOT to have it in the system and so things don't work properly (look up heroin withdrawal symptoms). This contrasts to marijuana, gambling, sex, and video games, to which people have been validly addicted to but there are no PHYSICAL symptoms when they abstain. However, all addiction is chemical, and these latter types are (as I understand) causing elevated levels of dopamine in the body, similar to what cocaine and methamphetamine do artificially.

Bottom line, it's not in Google's shareholder's interests to take a pro-freedom stance that excludes their products from the largest economy in the world. Rather, it's most definitely in their (the shareholders) interests for Google to make concessions to the Chinese government to be able to do business there. This is neither good nor bad (though some, including myself, would argue it's "not good"), but a product of being a company owned by stockholders. The great thing, especially in this case, is that if you disagree with such corporate policy, you can refuse to use their products and utilize those of a company whose actions are more in tune with your beliefs.

Wikipedia, obviously, by its nature is not beholden to these interests.

I work for a pretty large customer service/financial services company, and there's a fairly large group of us that go out on a regular basis that is mixed between men/women and various ranks too. The bottom line is A) treat everybody the same, and B) accept the fact that you will be treated the same (i.e. no different whether boss or subordinate, man or woman; at least outside the office on the former) If you want to be included in a group with "unwritten rules" like a clique, you have to go to them, not the other way around and expect them to change their values and beliefs to accept you. If you don't want to do that, then you don't want to be a part of that clique (which is neither good nor bad, it just "is")
