  1. Oh, for Gods sake ... on Samsung's New Galaxy Tab S5e Is Its Lightest and Thinnest Tablet Ever (theverge.com) · · Score: 3, Informative

... would manufacturers finally please quit this bullshit already.
Tablets are thin enough, thank you very much.

Just build one that a) doesn't need an extra hardcase to prevent it from breaking when I drop it and b) has a longer battery life.
This is so tedious and annoying.

  2. Today's smartphones and tablets are way more powerful than desktops from 15 years ago. The OS is just a tool, regardless of wether you use it with a touchscreen or a mouse and keyboard.

Google has the power to get rid of carriers and banks, I wonder why they don't take this step into Cyberpunk Megacorp land. Right now I'd rather be ruled by Google than by some Chinese single party government.

  4. Here's what I do on Ask Slashdot: Is It Ethical To Purchase Electronics Products Made In China? · · Score: 1

    - I buy refurbished whenever possible. On the upside: It's not only ethical in more ways than one, it gives you neat bargains aswell.
    - If I buy new, I see to it that the gear will/could last me 10 years - at least in theory. Point in case: My MB Air is from early 2011 and still is useful.
    - I always try to buy hardware that I could control or at least can usefully run offline if push comes to shove. With other things equal, I prefer hackable hardware over regular hardware.

I presume this approach will become more important to me in the future (Stallmans "Right to read" comes to mind). There might even come a point in the near future where I stock up on older refurbished electronics in order to be able to control it when things go south.

That effect kicks in noticably after a week or so.

The more processed foods are, the more unhealthy you're living. To me that's evident in quite a few ways.

Java won't go anywhere anytime soon, that includes it sticking around for another few decades in the places it already dominates.

    My 2 cents.

But since that all is due to evolution and it's long term strategy, I doubt this will happen any time soon. As long as Daniel Craig carrying a baby around is "unmanly" and men without career biographies are measurably more unattractive for long term relationships things will stay the way they have been since the dawn of time.

If we can design a Utopia that can cater both to men and women without either feeling discriminated, that would be cool, but that also requires us to accept a certain degree of biological differences. That is present with classic feminism, but not so much with today's hashtag and gender studies camp.

However, I see this more of a fad that will go away soon and have us back on track with reasonable expectations when it comes to equality.
