    Your example is a particularly bad one IMO because it was a commercial monthly fee game that died. You couldnt even run your own servers, you had to play on theirs.
    Once it died it became like you describe.

    I recently hosted a lan party. On the first day someone went out and bought a new video card. Nothing else but that video card was installed into his system, and he had been gaming during the party before then just fine.
    As soon as the new video card went in, Windows demanded re-activation.

    I'm told his wife is the entire reason there is a gates foundataion.

    The point I want to make in replying to you is that a LOT of MS, Gates, and the foundations "donations of $$" have been in the form of MS stock.
    So if they gave out a billion in stock during the high point of the bubble, it's big news, but those orgs that didnt imediately turn it into cash now have considerably less.

    Velveeta was the word I heard back then associated with the crossposting of spam to newsgroups.

    While this is a decent mechanic, it does stifle roleplaying outside of CRPG.

    What is the problem if a party of mostly good characters and a paladin takes on some rat bastard evil thief. The paladin isnt going to like him, or his ideas and they will come to a minimum of words, but it should add more character to the game IMO.

    I think the fact that you would use WinME is telling, of what, we can all speculate.

    Of all possible versions of windows (I regularly use 98SE, win2k pro, and NT4 Workstation) why subject yourself to that particular version?

    I find your misunderstanding of OpenGL disappointing.

    OGL != DX
    OGL = D3D

    Linux (and BSD for that matter) have nothing like DX as it stands now. They have things that are like some of the components of DX.
    This is where I agree with you that more work needs to be done to create what you describe.

    Looking up, most of the people actually slamming the game are fellow christians. most of the people bashing christianity (no matter their faith) are not really talking about the game in question.
