The reason for there being the 2 different comic book forms of Escaflowne was because they did a version that was more action and mech combat for the boys comic weekly and the more dialog/romance driven version was for the girls weekly comic magazine. IMO a smart way to do things if your product can really work in more then one demographic.
"Our countries are like close friends, no one keeps score of favors."
Except for asshole americans who seem to go off constantly about how much they are owed for WWII, and how the French are a bunch of cheese eating surrender monkies.
IT was not a remake of the old silent classic, it may have goten a few elements. IMO it stole much more from the writings of Asimove. Specifically the subplot with the detective and the robot detective.
I also dont see you putting out a superior effort so maybe you might want to climb down from the mountain there and be less of an asshole in every post. I think that AC might have pegged you right as being TL.
Anime as seen on the store shelves in the USA is sort of exempt from Sturgeons law.
The reason I say that is because what ends up being licensed here tends to be popular stuff and often filtered through the lense of fandom. While this will never prevent a crap but popular show from making it over here, it does keep out a lot of the crap. Sadly we also keep out a certain percentage of the non crap.
Still our good to crap ratio is far higher them Japans IMO.
Sure they will. PSX/PS1 owners had to adapt to shitty cd-rom units (either weak lasers, bad lenses, or wear on plastic rails) or buy new machines every so often. Currently my original PSX still works but only at a 70 DEG. angle will it read media without skipping. I know other whose units dont work unless upside down. Still more had no choice but to replace them.
PS2/PStwo owners had to put up with shitty CD-ROM unlits that either damaged the lens/media, dragged dust through the laser assembly or lasers got weak and could no longer read some formats.
I know a number of people who have had to have several PS2 units and they take this crap willingly as if sony never did wrong. For christ sakes there have been now 11 versions of the PS2 so far. Admitedly some versions came about due to tech changes and cost savings but I bet there were plenty of "bug fixes" mixed in.
SONY users will lap it up and take as many loads as SONY choses to nail em in the face with and like it like the bitches they are. I also want to point out before anyone starts flaming that I own a PS2 and several other current SONY products as well as older hardware.
"We think that there is some sort of environmental trigger that causes grasshoppers to grow to about 3-4x their size, and turn into what we would call a locust."
Last I read we KNOW there is an environmental trigger, (simplified)too many of em in too little space and too little food causes the change.
I hope along with the uplift war people read Sundiver and Startide rising, also before you are dont with the uplift ideas read the second whole trilogy. I'm not saying they are good, but just one book out of the entire tapestry of ideas does not explore all the things he brought up.
I hope I am not goring any holy cows, but mice as well as other animals are self aware, they deal with changes in the environment and learn. Just because they are not like the products of ACME Labs or N.Y.M.H. does not make them mindless automatons.
I think I agree with a lot of the rest of what you say, but it is an area I think we all need to self examine and see where we are going and how that sits with our "morals".
"No, Eddie's right. Don't watch this show if you're expecting hard-fightin', hard-lovin', rootin'-tootin' action. It's not that kind of show."
Um, isnt "hard-fightin', hard-lovin', rootin'-tootin' action" exactly what new BSG tries to be? At least thats what I got out of the Miniseries with Starbuck, and Baltar specifically.
I thouhgt having Brent Spiner as Soong was a good idea because of him being Data. I can honestly see someone make an android look like themselves at what they considered the prim eof their life. Everyone has a bit of narcisism.
I dunno what Enterprise you watched, but ther have been a few aliens races they have come across that looked human. Besides plenty of "alien" races are quite close that they can easily do an andorian spy episode or something.
I guess BSG has no science at all then, or at least scientist characters. Surely someone would ask themselves "Why are we being attacked evry 33 min and is there a way to stop it?". Asking that question would lead to looking into the problem to understand it and formulate a solution, rather then just blindly accepting the situation and randomly trying stuff in the hopes you win the science lottery.
I'm still willing to give the new BSG a try (seen the mini-series back a year or so ago) but I am bothered by his reverse-anti-technobabble technobabble. As much as he rails against it he is using it.

What does MS creating manufacturing jobs in Mexico and Europe have to do with helping Jobs in the USA?
Thinking about the Hindenberg, at what point does the object being etched become coated with rocket fuel?
So a broken linux install that is improperly configured is to be judged against a recently updated XP install?
Metropolis != Metropolis.

The American response would be to pay a paltry fine and admit no wrong doing.
Wow, they must have done a 180 from the mini-series then.
Sorry this was delayed so long, but I ran up against the 25 post per 24H limit for my karma level.
What if this Soong (I admit I missed all but the last part dure to life) found a method of life extension and is the same man?

So doing a tripple summersault through a hoop at sea world is just a hobby?
A canopy is a lot like an umbrella....
Most cat girls in animeI can think of turn out to be androids or cyborgs.

Can we name you Eric?

I have to say, he brings an intensity and fervor to the character that I think fits with how Andorians act in the books I have read.

Dorn does a LOT of cartoon voice acting as well.

I know people will disagree with me, but IMO "The Prisoner" was sci-fi and I dont think I have seen any sci-fi tv cast top that shows performances.
I'd love to see something like it again.
Be seeing you.
