here in Malaysia we actually have "gold class" cinemas that serve beer, and you get to sit in a couch. for about 4-5x the price of normal tickets tho, and yes you have to pay extra for the beer.
I frequently find myself switching between my PC & Blackberry, replying messages on one hand and doing some other work on the PC with the other. I for one would be happy to have the BB OS on the PC just so that I can use only one keyboard instead.
So yah, I can definitely see the appeal of this approach.
Strangely GPS "seems" to work on the Wifi model, judging from the iPad wifi that we have at home. However, it does you no real good since google map won't be able to load the new locations when you're on the road, unlike the 3g model
Another possible reason could be the fact that many users with conventional phones enters text messages using the T9 predictive text method, which accepts only correct spellings.
My personal blog, with average of about 1k unique visits per day, currently gets around 32% firefox users. Mind you, it is actually more of a lifestyle and food blog, nothing techy.
Most of my readers are from Malaysia though. You can check the broswer share here
Here in Malaysia one of our wireless internet service provider, Maxis, advertised for unlimited broadband, but will actually throttle your connection speed if you exceed 3GB per month. Total crap
The biggest difference is that you are at least a few weeks too late to the water cooler discussion. You might not care about this, but plenty of people do.
If you care to RTF (which no real slashdotter is proud of), Citizendium is going to do what they called "Progressive Fork" by first copying everything from Wikipedia. If the articles are changed in Citizendium, they will stay that way, but if they aren't and the same articles in wikipedia is updated, Citizendium will sync to the new version

a device with e-Ink screen is the way to go, I can't stand reading on PC/other handheld devices either but absolutely love the experience on Nook.
There are of course Kindle/iRiver/Sony Reader etc etc, but they essentially all use the same e-Ink screen from the same supplier.
not to mention that there's an initial investment on the hardware and the trade off of untrade-ability of ebooks
and that's a real shame, haven't they learn anything from the evolution of digital music?

This only happens in North America. Here in Malaysia we have, as an example, the Motorola A1100 that is Linux based and not at all closed.
Nokia's market is not limited to north America by any means.
