I guess it's not easy to keep snow on a treadmill like contraption. With a disk you can just keep the snow on the disk and not worry about them falling off like a threadmill.
I wonder how a skier would be affected by the centrifuge force exerted by the 30km/h spinning. The article does not specify this, I suppose one of the solutions would be to have an angle much like an oval race track.
This woul actually be interesting, but how do you load and unload as skier? Jump right in? or stop the whole spinning motion?
I guess there will be some technical difficulties, although nothing very difficult, it might imply some impracticalities. However, it'll be cool to see one.
Well, it's a shame when that happens. I am from Asia, and when I was there I didn't even have the confidence to use local ISP email account. Anybody can still use yahoo, hotmail or any other free services to contact their western friends.
I guess this affect Asian businesses more than the local folks. When businesses start to complain to their ISP why they can't send any mails to their western counterparts, maybe the ISP will start to listen.
Some ISPs there have very under qualified admin (the good ones moved here to the US;-), heck, some of them can't even understand english very well. ISPs there have a habit of hiring a contract person to set up everything and leave it.
The song are probably sang in mongolian, I am a chinese, but can't understand a single word of the song despite fluent in 3 different dialects and can understand a few more.
To really save space, I'd rather spend the money on an LCD. As for this thing, it's small alright, but what if you need to add a hard drive? or an 802.11 card? Sure it has a smart card slot, but I'd rather go with a laptop with CF slots.
I don't see any great future with this thing, especially for the price, and the butt ugly nerdy looking design. If you're a nerd, u won't need a small computer, if u like small PC, u probably are not a nerd.
I don't think the school gets Microsoft software for free. My college used to use gcc but recently they signed a contract with Microsoft to get all their software. They have to basically pay a lumpsum and the softwares they get will appear to be 'free'.
However, I don't think that covers all of Microsoft softwares either. For example, if the school buys a new server, they still have to pay for the Windows XP Datacenter or whatever.
The story is, it's not free, it just appears to be.

i was wondering why we are still using qwerty at work until i realized that i usually don't code more than a few lines in an hour. having a faster keyboard layout would make my productivity artificially lower, scary thought. eh

There's an interesting book by Roger Penrose about AI, Turing Machine/Test, Physics.. etc. named "The Emperor's New Mind", too bad I'm still on 3rd chapter.

ops, slashdotters are not happy with that, I got a -1 for Troll. I guess it will have to be a rock band.
and when you go to an actual ski resort, all you can do is left turns, just like how nascar drivers turn right, by 3 left turns.
I'm actively recuiting 4 young not-so-geeky looking male to join my boyband. I wanna be a space ranger ~
It doesn't mean the exploiters must be asian when the log suggests so. Those boxes could be used only as a bridge.

Google will own the piece of code you write for a mere $10,000, that's much cheaper than hiring 2 programmers to come up with anything in 2 months.
;)
I think I can start a software company base on this method.
I'm surprised there are still people who actually read every sentence of tom's article. Nowadays they get so bloated I just jump right to conclusion.
A quick check of the currenty yeilds
80.00 CAD = 50.1078 USD
doesn't seems to bad as I am paying about $45 monthly for my cable access anyway.
As long as the service is up and you have a choice of other type of ISP services, I don't see a point to argue..

any rules that prevent using the solar panels as wind sails as well? Dual powered car, with solar and wind, will probably be a little more promising.
it's come a long way, if only i can just click on setup.exe....
