X does not follow Y. Deus Ex 2 (and presumably Thief 3) sucked. It sucked because of what Ion Storm did. As others have pointed out, it is possible to make a release for both the Xbox and PCs that doesn't suck. Therefore, if it sucks, it must be Ion Storm's fault.

I'm not sure how pirating comes from any of your discussion.

Hmm, upon reading your last paragraph, I can't help but wonder if you are a troll. Paraphrased:

Don't bitch about the companies, suck it up and buy the games. Installation is the reason PC games suck. Companies are in the business of shovelware. If you don't like it, it's your problem.

Having played through DX2, if they pull the mini-micro level shit with Thief, there is no way I'm buying it. Especially with the crappy copy protection that caused the game to bomb to desktop about one out of four level loads. It was only playable with a noCD crack. And for mentioning that, I get banned from the discussion boards. Pricks.

Producers of shows frequently say 'but it's harder to sell into syndication after the show finishes'. To which I say 'if the show sucks ass and is cancelled, you aren't selling it to syndication anyway'.

Gameplay was awful with the incredible amount of micromanagement. The animals were dumb as rocks (having trained numerous dogs, the 'training' of the animals was laughable).

The interface was pretty wild, I'll grant you that. But the game was an excercise in tedium at best.

It's kinda like that iPod battery replacement fiasco. GM had a car (the Corvair) that did one or two things to make it cheaper. It was identical to some things VW, Fiat, and some others did. But Nader wanted a name, so he went after GM, not VW (who sold a lot more Bugs with the defect than GM could hope to sell of the Corvair). Furthermore, GM *knew* about the problem, and was in the process of fixing it in a later model. It was released, and was a heckuva little car, but the damage had been done. GM decided 'to hell with it' and went back to building boring, large cars for another couple decades. Send email if you want me to go into the specifics.
