It can be produced in a TFT factory, right. It doesn't use LC, so it's no LCD.
What is really nice is that there's no power needed to keep the information displayed. power is needed to change the information. Ideal for ebook stuff.
Right, but problems on embedded platforms could be the DLL's because they only run on x86. Embedded platform is probably StrongARM or something like it.
If you want new stuff, check out some of the cvs repository at sourceforge and start compiling. Hopefully you have fun debugging and sending patches like more of us do:-) Regarding the text boot : I boot about once every 3-4 months and I guess a text based boot will do just fine. Graphical boot only slows down things and why wait for anything to get started ?

well, it's just a little easier than reverse engineering stuff, but that's just a matter of time and not whether things can or can't be done.
Isn't bad quality actually a case off miss-management or bad communication between developers and management ? To my opinion it often happens that developers wouldn't agree to release a development, but management decides to release it anyways to make money.
On the other hand, you can develop something perfect but never get finished developing it. Therefore making no money or no success with the product.
Simply said, developing the best thing often doesn't match with sales schedules.
One positive thing about this : It keeps us all in business:-)
Good point. In my company we also set standards regarding languages. So far a few engineers complained but none of them ever came up with good arguments to break these standards. I'm sure none of them ever will because it would be up to them to set the new standard, which whould mean a lot of hassle like arranging training, support, maintenance.... pretty much everything needed to make it an accepted standard within a large company.
You made my point even more clear. No other country seems to be bragging so much about how great they are as USA. And doing such as an Anonymous Coward does fit you:-)
My boss and I have a perfect understanding. Something you may not comprehend.
Yep, It's a price you have to pay for being scared of terrorists.
As you may have noticed from other posts, not all people are scared enough to let go of their privacy.
BTW, when USA accept the 'reasonable actions' of their leader, it certainly doesn't mean that the rest of the world should follow. GW Bush didn't get any votes outside his country or did he ?
I even refuse to go to USA for my work. I already let my boss know this two years ago and untill today I still have reasons to uphold that position. This gives one more good reason for European companies to cooperate with far east (China, Japan mainly) instead of looking for partners in USA.
Unfortunately I have to admit, this is a victory of USA over the European law and this is very sad for us Europeans. I wonder what bad american ideas will invade Europa next and am I a terrorist when I fight against it ?:-)
In case you pay for an internet connection that probably already includes taxes, just like any other product you buy. At least in the country where I live it does.
Oops, that's quite the opposite here with dual-head setup. In windows it runs like shit and Linux works perfect. I do agree configuring is easier in windows, but using it is not easy at all and configuring is not as extensive as in Linux (fixed frequencies etc...). The drivers for dual head card in windows do not act the same way for each vendor and it seems there's no such standard like the xinerama one in X11. I've seen dual head card drivers for windows that present two screens in the configuration and also some that present one large screen, what's the standard here ? Perhaps I didn't read well enough, but as you mention, that shouldn't be necessary on windows or....
You just haven't given mounting a good thought. You probably also never eject your CD when you are using it and never gave it thought that you may be using this drive over a network where someone else might have access to that nasty 'eject' button.
Things most probably take long because it's given a good thought before implementing changes.
Come on, your kids see death and destruction every day on the news and you want to skip the sex scenes in BASIC INSTINCT ??:-) They might actually learn more from that than from watching the daily news.
This is not about Linux being a desktop OS. Linux is a desktop OS for me for over 5 years now and it does a nice job at that and at some points I would say it even much better than windows. I use both windows and Linux a lot. I do have jobs that I can't do very well on Linux (yet) but I also have jobs that I can't handle well on windows. Is that a way to measure the usage of a desktop OS ? If so, windows fails that too in my case.
What you're describing is that you expect Linux to be equal to windows. If that's a goal, it defenately is the wrong goal. An alternative doesn't mean the same thing as a drop in replacement.
Needing to be able to write your own code on Linux is not correct. You can do perfect without it. If you're not happy with something you always have the choice to let the developers of the packages know and you make a good chance that your idea is taken into account. Bitching of developers doesn't bring the guy from this article any further though. I'll give him one advice : Stay with Windows and buy your software and try complain to MS or some other company if you're not happy.
Hey, your bitching about problems without giving it a real try.
You didn't bother to compile the packages yourself and check the features of each package. The review is very limited as you only look at playing some video and using the GUI. To give you an example, I never use the xine GUI. I always use a remote control for that.
If you're not happy, get into the source and change it. It's open source you know.....
Name me any player on windows with the number of features that mplayer (or xine) has got and gives you that much freedom in its usage. I never found one, so might be interesting to hear that.
I use xine to play media on my TV and I must say with the use of lirc it's like a stand alone DVD player only it can do more than that. I'm not interested in the MS stuff and won't install it ever.

Lets face it, we all need a plug on the back of our head to connect.

I bet you don't use a PC for real jobs otherwise you would care about the OS quality.
And who the hell would help MS testing a product ? What do you gain for doing their job ? Will you get large price reduction as a tester ?
LoL
Thanks for the update Billy !!!
(I know you have the money, so why wouldn't you spend it on useless OSes).

.....and later you became famous with the jackass series.....
That's not stressful for your hardware, but for you.
Wow, than Microsoft doesn't know China well enough. :-)
They copy everything that can be copied and I sure hope they do continue what they are good at

Did you think about installing a distro kernel and if necessary just compile the module that you need ?

xine does detect your cpu capabilities at run time. Perhaps that doesn't give you the best, but you can see the advantage of that I guess.
In that case : Buy your software !
It really seems that windows users are lame.
