"Reminds me of something one of my karate teachers (a wonderful old Cockney gentleman) said to us: "Always fight fair. And by fair fight I mean one in which you don't get hurt." "
Fight dirty and fight to win. You use any and every method at your disposal to put the other guy down and make sure he doesn't get back up. There is no honour in fighting, there is no glory. There is no good fight.
I'm going to assume you're trolling. If not I have to ask how did someone as dumb as you get a four digit/. ID? You're giving the rest of us a bad name.
Why not create a flood fill system which aggregates all RSS feeds? That way a local server at my ISP could have every RSS feed, locally. It'd save a huge amount of bandwidth...
It's a news aggregator which uses a network so we could call it UseNet News! how cool would that be?
Then there's your development costs. Then your business administration costs. Then marketing costs. Then advertising costs. Then sales costs. Then distribution costs. Then support costs.
Then... and only then... If you were charging enough and people actually bought what you're selling... You get to make profit, and the government comes along and takes a third of that.
Create a shell script containing a tar --remove-files command which dumps the archive in the users trash folder and alias del, delete, remove, trash to it.
Create a move command which performs a cp then tar --remove-files.
use these new commands instead of the defaults. Hell, alias the default rm,mv,cp in your shell.
"I think we should just all sit down with mosquitos and have a good long chat, I'm sure we could work out our differences and learn to live together in peace and harmony."
Yeah... Tell that to the hundreds of thousands who die from malaria in the third world every year...
These machines do work. That isn't to say that a network of them would be any more useful than using one as a point solution where there's a known problem.
I moved recently and took a substantial pay cut, with the house prices so much lower I'm actually making more than I was in London. The banks & tax man are getting less of it.
You're abused by your telco? Bugger off elsewhere. Don't want to pay $2.50/song, then fucking don't do it...
"some dumb fashion slut who wants your wallet, not your seed."
$500 is peanuts. The fact that you even think it's worth mentioning tells me you have absolutely no idea what's really going on there and your seed therefore isn't of a high enough quality for most "dumb fashion sluts".
"We are planning to upgrade soon so that each user has their own desktop machine running local apps, but still mounting the home directories on the server."
Lol. that's a step backwards, but you won't notice for 18 months. Honest. Spend the money on a couple of additional servers instead.

Funnily enough...
Since we're going hyperbolic...
When you find yourself fighting for your life the end absolutely does justify the means.

So... What if you don't actually steal anything. Just go in with a bunch of barcodes and stick them on stuff... Randomly...
Invite only... What's an orkut invite worth these days?
Again... http://tribe.net/ better.
Try http://tribe.net/ instead. Far more configurable, doesn't crash every 2 mins and the advertising is less intrusive...

And, fucking *Insightful* moderation? Jeesus...
I call bullshit. No idea where you get your information from, but... yup... just about every word of it is utter utter crap.
:) Yeah, feel free to mod me for that.
HTH
The problem with slashdot is that any fuckwit can be a moderator too...
The same's true of slashdot. or any group forum. To the individual it's a push medium. The Karma concepts one of the better ones I've seen.
/. who came up with it?
BTW, was it

Microsoft have always simply followed the market.
So your *bits* cost $20.
Then there's your development costs.

Then marketing costs.
Then advertising costs.
Then sales costs.
Then distribution costs.
Then support costs.

Set up or learn the keyboard shortcuts for everything you do. That's it. Much time saved.
Unlink?

It's a markup language. It gives meaning to the text, how a particular browser then renders the markup is up to the developers.
Land prices: Mortgage, rent etc taxes.

And it has much higher bandwidth than wireless....
Having said that. This is just a cringley rumour.
But what does it give me... Now... That I don't have already?
