  4. Actually we do know already. Since there are nation-wide laws against drug running, and that hasn't stopped drugs, why would anyone think that a nation-wide ban against guns would fare any better? (especially since some guns are easy to manufacture with a low-level technology, similar to that available to cartels.)

Not everyone lives in a crime-infested neighborhood, so that may not be an issue for the "non-thinking" poster. On the other hand, it sounds like something very ugly (or very expensive if not ugly). I'd bet HOAs would have a fit. But then, not everyone lives in a HOA-infested neighborhood.

I have seen good friends (not neccesarily both the same "race" either) use that word (and worse!) to refer to each other, neither taking offense. Just because an uninvolved 3d person takes offense doesn't mean the actual participants do. Maybe the 3d party is just being a busy-body. Reminds me of the U of Miami Indians being forced to change their mascot because some so-called indian activists took offense. While the real Miami tribe wanted them to keep the "Indians" name so that folks would remember the Miami where actually in Ohio and not S Florida.

Sultana, 27 Apr 1865. 1547 dead (depending on who you talk to). A civilian ship, but hired by the Army to ferry POWs home. Maybe not combat, but could still be considered a military mission taking place during war (The war between the states didn't end until May 1865). It's all in the definition. Regardless, none of these examples detract from the (unnecessary) loss of life on the Indianapolis.

If I recall, there wasn't a US involved at that time. The US withdrew from the world after WW1 (see G. May still have been an Auschwitz/etc., but that's another speculative history project.
