I've worked at a lot of tech companies and done lots of interviewing on behalf of management and have never seen one hiring decision where the most qualified engineer didn't get the job, be they male or female. Tech is the most meritocratic industry in the American economy.
Uh, isn't that what Google's proof-of-concept does - demonstrate the flaw being successfully exploited? Does Microsoft need to see N. Korea exploiting it before they believe it's real?
Windows 8 was an unmitigated disaster and drove many customers to competing platforms like tablets and OS X. Whoever at Microsoft that decided to force Metro down peoples' throats must be sitting in a straightjacket somewhere mumbling to his padded walls.
