It's so funny how people toe the line with their political parties, despite the fact that each party has their faults and, in a lot of cases, do the exact same misdeeds. It's sad that the majority of people seem to never come to the realization that no matter who they vote for of the 2-party system, they get the same thing. As long as their focused on ancillary, unimportant issues, this may never change.

How do you get those who enjoy being spoon-fed the horeshit that comes from mainstream media to realize the error of their ways without them first (a) losing interest, or (b) sticking their head in the dirt and singing "la la la" -- in either case losing them before you get them to think critically? We're basically fucked, b/c that won't happen. The vast majority is willing to give up rights, freedoms, etc. as long as they're protected from "turrists" and can go on living their pacified, infinitesimal lives.

This is just completely false. FreeBSD folks want you to be able to anything you want with their system. Customize it to fit your needs. If you want a pre-built system complete with desktop and plenty of hand-holding -- which is what most new users want -- that's when PC-BSD is suggested. Personally I use FreeBSD on the desktop and I love it (running KDE 4.10.1 atm). It's not really hard to get setup, though time-consuming as a lot of stuff needs to be built from source. But that's what FreeBSD is, and that shouldn't change.

There are indeed plugins that do this. In fact, I was alerted to a few of my sites being bruteforced from a plugin that does just that. What really helps though, is having a .htpasswd enabled on the wp-admin directory -- I use a plugin for that as well ("AskApache Password Protect"), though admittedly it's not hard at all to implement without the plugin.
