I'm not talking about the software on the CD or floppy. I'm talking about the software withing the cuecat that turns a bunch of lines into a bunch of alphanumerics.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I guess they need to put the EULA inside the microcode on the Cuecat in the next revision? ;)

The retreat of the traditional firm and the rise of the guilds definitely mark a new phase in the history of work. What nobody knows yet is whether this new flexibility is a great step forward for individualism or another heartless Darwinian profit-making tool of the new corporation. If history is any guide, it's probably a bit of both.

    Welcome, to the real world.

Your understanding is wrong. The issue with Digital Convergence here is that they WANT you to use their software, and by using your own software with the Cuecat you're infringing on their IP (or so they claim). It's the hardware that they have an issue with.

Together with the ease of buying with one-click-shopping at Amazon, can you imagine what they can do to exploit customers that are just plain loyal to Amazon and not care about the prices?

Right now, I bet they are keeping track of customers that are buying their products irregardless of the price (the price is marked up way higher than other stores). Now that they realize that the customer doesn't care too much about the price As Long As It's Amazon, it systematically marks up every product that customer sees with another $10-20 bucks. So this means I cannot make observations based on the evidence that is available for all to see?

Heck, you can make observations based on NO evidence if you want. Just that your observation based on the facts accessible by you thus far about Transmeta probably can't be treated seriously...

If I am a moderator now, I would moderate your post down simply because you're exploiting reverse-psychology by whining about how this post will be moderated down.

since you don't attend Transmeta board meetings, I'm sure they know a lot of things that you don't know...

  17. Well, for a start.. on Cell Phone Purchasing: Drop Down? · · Score: 4
why not fully kill the dependence of cell phones with their cell phone providers. While having tiny smart-cards (that contains your account information) that you can swap in and out of cell phones is just starting in california, it has been around in Asia for FOUR years.

With those tiny smart-cards, it's trivial for anyone to trade in old cell phones for new ones, and it breaks the current phone companies monopoly, since currently there's a pretty darn high barrier of entry to switch phone providers (you have to get a new phone if you want to switch from ATT to Verizon).

For $30 US a month, you can get 2000 minutes in Hong Kong. Cheaper service means more customers, which means a larger market for cell phones.
