I would not call it "legacy". You coworker is just a hipster.

  3. Rather sell more than make stuff expensive on PC Game Prices — Valve Starts the Race To Zero · · Score: 3, Interesting

Because as a game developer I see two main motivations that are essentially the same as every other artist:
    1) making enough money to live
    2) bring your stuff to as many people as possible

so if I have the choice of selling 10Mio copies at 5€ or 1Mio copies at 50€ for me the first option would clearly win.

  6. Is this really news? on Water Filtration With a Tree Branch · · Score: 1

After all its pretty well-known that from some trees you can get pretty good drinking water (as in: clean) so one would just naturally assume that somewhere between the roots and the trunk where you normally tap in, the thing would get filtered ... and alas there is not much in between except wood.

afaik this is getting fixed as we speak. eg. for carbon nanotubes there is some minimum length to make using them feasible (because you have to knot a whole lot of them together), and these lengths were first reached around a year ago or so iirc (according to the the awesome german space-blog "raumzeit")

Actually, its very easy to make (though depending on your definition of "flying pigs" and if the pig has to be alive in the end; i.e. can we use a cannon or a plain or does the pig have to do its own thing) and might have some good uses.
