I'm considering a purchase of Opera35 for my win95 box (damn, things about to expire & I haven't needed a full OS install after I removed the compression) but if U purchase the 95 version does this allow U to get the Linux version?
today in one of the major newspapers (The Australian,www.theaustralian.com.au ) Toshiba have taken out full-page colour advertisments along the lines of 'toshiba, your trust friend'. Wonder why?
I reckon you'll find this happens more and more. Think about it, developers are going to target the company that gives them the greatest exposure, marketing clout and market.
Who's to bet that RH is going to win hands down in the developer market. An article in the local rag (www.it.fairfax.com.au - article not online) explained how Caldera (www.calderasystems.com) is aiming to the busines market, RH has like 72% of the 18-24YO developer market (how they make these claims I do not know?) So watch for the software companies targeting the various L*nux brands along the following lines
Red Hat = developer tools,games?
SUSE = euro, might miss out, home users, first time market
Debian = choice of hackers/purists, no market there
Caldera = biz users, hence applications
what I would like to know is which of these distributors is going to best support game s/w,RH?

theres a lot of good points here, I've read a number of 'posts' requesting the hardware HOWTO and I guess this helps to a degree. A suggestion worth considering is a table summarising laptop/Linux HW compatability so you can check beforehand. Something along the lines of
hw make
model
linux hw features supported
driver number
linux distribution
etc.
There's a lot of new HW coming out and it would be useful to see what HW has a driver and what doesn't.. This type of information will ultimately reflect in sales. If it's the bucks that drive T, you'll soon see a response. If it's ideological well...
seems Palm have refined the standard apps as well...(appUsage et.,al. if the shots are stock standard P4) notice the batttery now has a voltage reading (3.95v, my Palm3 runs at 2.83V when fully charged)...pity P4 mem cant be upgraded:(

why not specify when you purchase yr machine NOT to have windows...I know when I purchased my last win box I simply requested windows NOT to be on the system, just DOS:) hence I didn't have to fork out any dosh for M$Windows ?

just how well did the 486/25 perform? was it useable?
