  1. Cutting Direct TV next on Continued Cord Cutting Hits the Pay TV Business Hard · · Score: 1

Now that the ATT buyout is complete I'm moving over to the Netflix/Hulu/HBO Now setup. I will just go to a bar if their is a sports event I want to watch.

Carlsbad CA does this in it's village area; all the lights go red and pedestrians cross in all directions including diagonal.

  6. Missing the point on The Auto Industry May Mimic the 1980s PC Industry · · Score: 1

This entire premise is flawed. The purpose of a PC is to do "something", it's purpose is to serve as a delivery system for some form of software. The purpose of a car is to provide transportation. In the first case the hardware is there to provide a platform for the software, in the latter the hardware (the car) is the point. Unless there is some cool new app that will teleport people the car will always be more important than the fancy apps it can run.

  7. Buy on Vizio, Destroyer of Patent Trolls · · Score: 1

This is the first I'm hearing about Vizio's combativeness with patent trolls. I'm not sure how their legal standing on getting fees back will work out but I am much more likely to buy one of their TV's now.

  8. Sardaukar Not Involved on Coup in Arrakis Capitol Leaves Region in Flux · · Score: 3, Funny

Imperial spokesman again denied that Sardaukar were involved in the upheaval on Arrakis. "This was a struggle between two competing Houses, we would never become involved in their internal disputes."

  9. Devices on Daylight Saving Time Change On Sunday For N. America · · Score: 1

My biggest problem with shifting clocks is that some of my devices auto-adjust for DST but others do not and I don't know which are which. Things were easier when I just moved all my clocks before going to bed the night before.

  10. I do not use Uber, but based on everything I have heard on this company's business practices, treatment of it's drivers, threats made to journalist, and now learning that the app is scraping every bit of data possible from people's phones I have to ask "Why are you using this app? Is it really that much better than calling a cab?"

  11. No more appointment TV on The Era of Saturday Morning Cartoons Is Dead · · Score: 2

Saturday morning cartoons weren't killed by the internet, they were killed by the DVR. My kids only recenlty became aquainted with the concept of "you have to wait for them to show the next episode". Saturday mornings at our house are devoted to binge watching a week's worth of Pokemon, Gravity Falls, and Phineas & Pherb.

  12. Submarines on Study Finds That Astronauts Are Severely Sleep Deprived · · Score: 1

  13. 9.99 on Amazon's eBook Math · · Score: 2

  14. Take Responsibility on Amazon Fighting FTC Over In-App Purchases Fine · · Score: 1

Every memember of my family has a Kindle. The Free Time app prevents all in-app purchases regardless of what the App Store settings are. If I let the kids turn off Free Time I still get an email almost instantly when any purchase is made. Amazon has done their due dilligence, if people are still having huge bills racked up by their children they need to look in the mirror for the guilty party.

I have gotten to experience the transition from legacy to modern computer systems on submarines first hand. Yes new equipment adds all kinds of cool functionality but it breaks a lot more often and the fix usually takes longer than replacing a single card or power supply.

I'll listen to the guy who designed the Dutch suits: Bert van der Tuuk, the designer of the Dutch Olympic team's suits, said Thursday he had tried a similar ventilation panel on the back of a prototype three years ago, but it slowed his skaters by letting in air and creating drag. "The suit was blowing itself up," he said. http://goo.gl/YaDlg8

  20. Focus on the kids on How Can Nintendo Recover? · · Score: 2

What Nintendo does better than any other system is make games that pre-teen kids want to play. Mario/Kirby/Pokemon are all powerhouses that Xbox and PS4 do not have; if Nintendo can release a QUALITY game from one of those IPs every 6-8 months they will be fine. Fixing the social aspects and tying everything together through the 3DS would take them from "surviving" to "thriving".

  21. Terrible Idea on PC Makers Plan Rebellion Against Microsoft At CES · · Score: 1

Microsoft makes Windows 8 more like a tablet interface, everyone hates it, so now PC makers are going to put an actual tablet OS on their desktops? The inmates are officially running the prison. P.S. the little icon that hides everything I used to be able to just click on may work great on my phone but sucks on an actual website. Stop trying to make everything look like Android.

  22. If ATT is for it on The Dismantling of POTS: Bold Move Or Grave Error? · · Score: 1

  24. Bad Parent on Most Parents Allow Unsupervised Internet Access To Children At Age 8 · · Score: 1

Both of my children (6 and 8) have their own gmail accounts with every restriction I can find turned on. They do not know the passwords and Chrome is only browser installed on their computer, which lives in the living room. After one of my History checks I did have to discuss some questionable Mario and Princess Peach videos.

  25. Missed the boat on Can the Wii U Survive Against the PS4 and Xbox One? · · Score: 1

The problem with the Wii U is that Nintendo did not go after a Kinect-like interface. I buy our video-game system for my kids and right now they are happy with the Wii but as the new games migrate to the next generation of consoles we will have to upgrade. From what I have seen Micro$oft One is going to be the choice. My son likes jumping around like an idiot while he is playing games. The online portion of the One looks much more robust than Wii U as well.
