I know that it's not fashionable to appear to agree with Microsoft, but it's not exactly fair to maintain control of a market by buying out the competition, is it?
This may have something to do with the garbage that the record industry keeps churning out. Seriously, the Dreamgirls soundtrack was #1? What does that tell you?
It may also have something to do with a downturn in the economy, uncertainty about the future, record levels of consumer debt, and energy prices that take up an ever-increasing share of people's budgets.
But, certainly, above all these factors, it must be the file sharing!!!
If people were smart about it, they would have implemented the change to be adjustable so we wouldn't have to re-patch everything. How likely is that though?
It worked for me (yikes!) with 2.0.0.2 on Windows 2003; I presume XP would be similar.

Pthreads vs Win32 threads
·
· Score: 5, Insightful
It is perfectly feasable for there to be ways in which Win32 threads are better than Pthreads (as hard as that is to believe), and also vice versa. Hence the two articles. You didn't read the two articles, did you?
From the first one:
I've used both POSIX threads (Pthreads) and Win32 threads APIs and I believe that Pthreads has the better programming model of the two. While each threading method can create threads, destroy threads, and coordinate interactions between threads, the reason I make this claim is the simplicity of use and elegance of design of Pthreads. Let me illustrate with a few examples. And, from the second one:

Why are credit card rates so high? Because that's what the market will bear? Credit card companies aren't having any difficulty finding people to lend money to at exorbitant rates.
The same deal does not apply to other copyrighted media such as CDs or DVDs if you have opened them, or books if you have read them. If you are talking about returning unopened items, then fine, but how can you tell if a digital media file has been played?
People get to the start page by opening their browser (usually MSN, sometimes Google) and just type "www.somedomain.com" into the search field. Most of them even click the search field before they do. Also, note the www. It's always there - Because the web doesn't work without the www part. Once the search engine responds with results, they click the first result, which is usually the right one. Imagine what a google bomb could have done to these people?
I understand where you're coming from, but sometimes the interweb actually doesn't work without the "www". I've encountered a few sites just recently that didn't work. Generally, it's a DNS screwup, or a really fun redirection loop. Whatever it is, sites always work with "www" on the front.
But ... guns are bad, mmmkay?

Of course. Pollution is responsible for increased sunspot activity. It's all in the UN report.
Oh yea! Thanks!

Singular "they" is already an acceptable, although controversial, usage. It's also been in use for centuries.

Since it was a self-reply, I find it hard to believe that the point was missed.
Yes, I remember when the very same thing happened ten years ago and all of Microsoft's productivity software was replaced by Java.
Er, um, I guess that didn't really happen. Maybe it's because the software platform doesn't matter?
This is exactly what we need: mosquitoes that are more likely to survive longer. Now I need to go buy a better bug spray. Thanks, science!
I'm also a sylpheed (well, okay, sylpheed-claws-gtk2) user. It's fast, lightweight, and it works with my (n)mh mail files.
Okay, wise guy, how do you extract the hydrogen efficiently?

It's an entirely different kind of computing.
You too can be an editor! Be bold!
P.S. I changed that sentence for you. Is that better?
And... shouldn't it be Larry instead of Jeff?
Do you have a C:\boot.ini file?

Yep, it was. Note that it is not.

You could still burn it to CD.
