  4. Frequently, there's a fitting that goes over the ball joint to retain the lubricant. If the fitting fails, is cut/compromised, falls out of place, etc, the lubricant leaks out/dries up. THen without lubrication the ball joint wears and then needs replacing.

    They are both much more forgiving, as far as weight/power requirements.
