When they say "material in question" they are referring to the material, the copyright of which they believe is being infringed.

Their wording should be clearer, but they aren't misrepresenting anything.

That will be the one and only time I stick up for them though!

I generally do read terms, contracts, etc. I read the T&C when buying a Dell laptop and then made them take it back when there was a single dead pixel. The T&C didn't say that 4 or so stuck pixels were required for a display to be considered faulty (as their support were claiming), so I was able to argue that it was not good enough.

Know the Terms/Contracts you've signed and be persistent -- do both of these things and you're one step closer to not being totally screwed by every service you use or product you buy.

You're wrong on Shaq ("dumbass"). Shaq turned down the opportunity because he'd already won a gold. Yes, it's a convenient excuse, but it's hard to argue with someone wanting to let another person experience the games.

And you're probably right on the US needing some pure shooters. Right now they're barely leading Greece with a quarter to play. (I'm from AUS, and we got drilled by Greece.)

Just in case you didn't know, you can get this little app from Fiba.com called Fiba Buzzer if you're a Windows user. Runs in your system tray and alerts you whenever a quarter starts or finishes in Olympic basketball. You can expand the display slightly to update frequently checking for scores, rebounds, etc. It's nothing incredible, but beats hitting refresh on the Olympics site.

Maybe there's something in between that doesn't look ridiculous, cost too much, and is portable enough to be easily carried around (carrying 2 Xboxes and 8 large controllers around ain't too light!).

Sorting that out is pretty basic stuff and should be done before any kind of public beta.

    I like the layout though.

Funny excerpt from the article about Bush on his mountain bike:

    ---
"I'm gonna show you a hill that would choke a mule," he says.

He hits the brakes and is steadily advancing downhill when his front tire loses its grip amid the loose rocks. His foot gets stuck in a strap that keeps it on the pedal.

In the blink of an eye, his rear wheel is in the air, and Bush is flying high over the handlebars, landing on his back with the bike on top of him.

He lies motionless for a few moments. The reporter hoists the bike off him just as his medics arrive to attend to him.
    ---

Is this a big opportunity for out-of-work artists (tautology!) to custom-produce music tailored to something like a dental surgery and then license it for a very fair fee? i.e., buy my CD and you're allowed to play it.

I can see sense in making it unprofitable to sell via spam but the minimal cost makes it worth their while. For example, the cost of acquiring a list of two million addresses is not that much more than acquiring fifty thousand.

If you cut the Joe Sixpack's from buying via spam from 5% to 1%, it's not difficult for a spammer to spam five times the number of people to maintain their sales level.

That said, a public education campaign wouldn't be a stupid idea and I don't think it would hurt. I get a lot of spam about medical products, cheap software and mortgages and I really worry that there are people out there taking out giant loans with dodgy enterprises. It's a big enough deal putting your house on the line with a reputable lender, let alone a place with no reputation and being the type to resort to spam.

Here in Australia, there was some PR recently about how we have law to stop local spammers, but what fluff. The only unsolicited Australian stuff I get is from people sending me their resumés! Maybe force ISPs to do more about the problem.

One of the web hosts I use (ozhosting.com) have 1-3 hour delays with email DAILY because they cannot handle the levels of viruses and spam -- it's utterly ridiculous; avoid them!
