Err, I think you'll struggle to find anyone agreeing with you that Bush's daughters are people who 'really matter'.

And can't you just imagine the Pope's MP3 collection? Personal karaoke recordings of Polish classics?

Actually, I got within a metre of Ol' Popey a couple of months ago in St Peter's. I don't think many other people noticed, but he has skin-coloured ear-plugs disguised as hearing aids, but that little white iPod on his belt gave it all away.

As much as I love all these efforts, you will get best results if you let him know of your potential to minimise future votes in his favour. I watch US politics and foreign affairs from afar, and your politicians listen *only* to business $ and votes (and even then, they disregard votes, *cough* Florida *cough*).

You will get best results if you are:
    - from Utah
    - wield influence in Utah

Try a letter that starts by telling Hatch that you are a prominent IT consultant (preferably in Utah) who regularly speaks and writes to large audiences (again, pref in Utah).

You disagree with his position, as do many of your associates, and your customers, colleagues, and audiences, from this point, will only associate him as a senator with ludicrous views. Remind him that such a thing will force voters away in droves.

  6. Re:Huh? on IAB Recommends Larger Web Advertising · · Score: 1

I don't think that ads are the solution. As a designer, I find that designing sites to incorporate ads makes it incredibly difficult to achieve and attractive result. The distracting nature of ads also does nothing for the ease of use of a site.

I would much rather see corporate sponsorship where appropriate. Ars Technica, for example, once had (and may still have) a long running relationship with The Chip Merchant. If I was in the US, I would've bought from them as a supplier who supports a site I read. I haven't read Ars in months (too busy), but I remember the name of one of their supporters/advertisers, and would use their services if closer to the source.

Isn't that what a company seeking to advertise its product would want?

That said, *appropriate* sponsorship is required. Not something that might overly bias opinions, etc.

Also, exclusivity with sponsorship arrangements (i.e., one exclusive hardware reseller, one book store, etc) can enable sites to seek more support (whether financial, or contra).

I've almost finished Halo on Xbox and it is an absolutely superb game. Best game I've ever played on a console, and close to the best considering PC games too. The atmosphere and images are very good.

Picked up a second controller the other day, and had a first go at co-op mode -- loved that too.

Can't wait to try the multiplayer stuff (4 xboxes x 4 controllers = 16 player multiplayer - nice!).

Haven't got any other games yet, but the Xbox itself runs very quickly and I've been quite impressed generally at the MP3 ripping/storage features too.

So by your suggested ratio, Microsoft (based on their *cash* donation only) should be making a profit of USD$500 000 000 000 (they might be, but with thousands of employee's salaries, I doubt it).

Consider this -- If Microsoft didn't announce a donation, would thousands of anti-MS /.ers be accusing them of not making one?

There are worse out there than bin Laden, and recent reports suggest that these masterminds were behind the attack.

The solution, I think, lies partially in solving the problems of these source countries (namely poverty). The past actions of the US (like giving $43m to the Taliban for them to declare that growing opium is against the will of god), are not helping anything (not even the drug problems of the US).
