I think he was talking about asynchronus connections themselves like ADSL. 128kbit up, 1.5 mbit down. By its very definition, ADSL can't send nearly as much as it can receive, creating an imbalance.
Has anyone seen the listed on-duty editor actually CHANGE? Every time I can remember seeing it it's always daddypants, does this person sleep? If so, this must be nap time.
As Sancho himself said, "There are lots of people intentionally avoiding all information about Star Wars." Due to the wording of his post it sounds as if this is exactly what he wants to do, otherwise I don't think he would have used that point in his argument.
Obviously a nice solution would be a generic spoiler flag for all topics... but it only works when you use it.
There's a simple solution to your problem. Turn off the Star Wars Prequels topic in your preferences. The creators of this site put that there for a reason. The editiors can't help you if you won't help yourself.
Well there's a slight problem with the space elevator idea. That requires you to have a large mass at the end of the cable for a counterbalance, like an asteroid. So using a space station attached to a a space elevator to build a ship capable of bringing an asteroid back to balance the elevator is kind of a chicken and the egg problem =)

Yeah.... I also had this same problem with the powerpack version. A lot of things seemed to have gone wrong in that powerpack release, but downloading the installer from openoffice.org and shoving it into/usr/local/bin/openoffice fixed the problem for me. Maybe you should give it a try...
I've dropped mine from heights of about 10 feet or so maybe 100 times (don't ask) and my unit still works fine. I do have the occasional column of pixels out maybe once every 100 power ons or so, but it usually goes away by the next time I use it. Display problems notwithstanding I still think it's a great gizmo.
I'm currently enjoying my Sharp Wizard 770. It has 3 MB of space and syncs with a PC. You can load programs on it just like most PDA's. The built-in keyboard is nice and responsive. The only drawback is a monochrome screen, but it has a nice electroluminescent backlight. I bought mine more than a year ago for about $80 and it works perfectly for me. Maybe it's not a fancy gadget with cellular modem options, etc. , but it does a very nice job for a low-end PDA.

I downloaded RC3, the md5sums are the same. Plus there's this wonderful message on the Cooker mailing list: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cooker&m= 104861019216735&w=2

Err, that's a 200 foot tower, buddy.
It appears these bunkers will NOT protect you from the fury of Slashdot.
