    Exactly. And this is where the record labels screwed up big time. How many years did they fight Napster when they should have been setting up their own legal download shop? Instead, Apple took the initiative and presented it to the labels when they were desperate. Now Aple has the control and the labels are realizing that iTMS doesn't need them in the future. They SHOULD be very scared. If I have a band, and my contract is up with a label, I'd be crazy to re-sign. I could easily go straight through iTMS and get a much larger percentage of the profits.

    The RIAA is afraid of Apple. They know in today's world, music labels aren't as necessary. And iTMS may be making them useless. Why should a major act re-sign with a label when they can go straight through iTMS? Dvorak has a great article on it.

    I just started a new job where I am forced to run Windows. We use Groupwise for our email. I've got to say that Evolution's mail client runs circles around Groupwise. I sure hope Novell incorporates Evolution into Groupwise.

    Then you better switch to OpenOffice.org now. Because Microsoft Office 12 will have massive GUI changes to it. So based on your argument, your users will be better off with OpenOffice since it will be closer to the current versions of Microsoft Office in gui style and location of buttons and icons.

    Many of us hate patents on medicine as well. Patents no longer do want they were intended to do. Which was to help the individual inventor protect his invention against corporations. Now, corporations use it to prevent competition.

    Actually, it isn't slashdotters beliefs that Apple doesn't make poor marketing decisions. It is our belief that Apple doesn't make marketing decisions, period. We don't think they actually have a marketing dept. outside of the one that is used for the iPod.

    What I don't understand is why we aren't mobilizing Guard units from other states, for example, Ohio. I would love to go and help out. (One can't always leave work to go help the Red Cross, but when the Guard calls, you pretty much have to answer the pager, employer be damned....)


    Maybe because they are all in Iraq. Bush now has a chance to pull out and he has an excuse to do it.

    Yep, the 90's were a total waste of a decade for Apple. Imagine where they'd be now had Jobs not been forced out in 1985. Microsoft might not exist in its current iteration. I mean, OS X is about 5 years behind where it could be had Jobs not had to go and start NeXT. And right now, OS X is a good 5 years ahead of even Vista.

    You honestly don't believe human beings evolved here do you? Think about it. Human beings are a parasite on this planet. Look at how we multiply and feed off our host until we destroy it. We're just waiting for the spaceship to come and take us to the next planet so that we can destroy it as well.

    Hey, I do not believe in god, believe humans are most likely to blame for global warming, recycle everything I can, ride my bike to work year round (even though I do own an SUV) and, wait for it - voted for Bush. Twice. Wait, three times if you count the elder. Oh, and I have a PhD in biochemistry. There are many different reasons why people vote Republican. Me? I am sick of entitlements.

    You vote republican because you are sick of entitlements? Better check out the energy bill. See who benefited there. So you'd rather have the country go to hell all because you don't want some person to possibly benefit from your tax dollars, yet you have no problem watching corporations get a lot more benefits from your tax dollars than any poor person in the projects.
