I got mine from Circuit City a couple of weeks ago. I had every intention of removing OS X and putting Linux on it, but I've yet to do it. OS X rocks! I've got X installed and Gnome, so I can run most of my Linux apps. I could run Office X on it, but I seriously doubt I'd ever pay for that.
I'm glad you mention outside email sources. My wife emailed me recently asking me to check her email at home. She was expecting something very important from her dad. She could access her email using the webmail (Cox Internet), but her company prevented their users from using webmail due to security (virus) reasons. So I had to access it from my work and forward it to her.
I then sent her an email and asked her to forward it to the I.T. department. In the email I said "If your company is so concerned about security and not letting the users use web-based mail, then why are they running Microsoft servers in the first place?" She tells me their mail is constantly down due to viruses. They're running Exchange btw.
Personally, I don't think I'd ever pay to download music. I want a physical copy. Just let me burn it to ogg. If my hard drive dies, at least I can create the ogg again, but if I pay to download it and the hard drive dies, I'm SOL.
IBM made a decision a couple of years ago to put their future in two technologies: Linux and Java. The benefits were that each technology could be implemented in all of IBM's products from mainframes to PC's (or even watches).
Linux is already paying dividends for IBM. But they are worried about Java, actually Sun's control over it. If Sun screws up Java, it would have disastrous results for IBM. IBM would like to see Java opened up more. And if Sun continues to keep Java from being open, IBM will have to consider buying out Sun for their own survival.
A computer with this kind of power. Amazing. Imagine the possibilities. Aids research, cancer research. But no, what is it being used for? Nuclear weapons research. What is wrong with humanity?
Get over it. I had my entire cd collection in mp3 format. Then I decided to switch to ogg. It only takes time. Anytime you're on the computer, throw a cd in and run grip and save it as ogg. Not too difficult. It took me about 6 months of converting. So now my system is mp3 free, except for the songs I downloaded from napster. But my cd collection is now totally ogg!
China will be able to produce super-humans with their cloning. They can have two of everybody so they always have a fresh competitor. Its not fair I tell you.
Students aren't pirating as much now because more of them are using open source software than in 1997. How many knew about open source software back then. I was still using OS/2 Warp myself.
When I got my new machine at work, I wanted Star Office 6 beta on it, but the beta had closed. So I downloaded Open Office and I haven't seen any difference. Works great.
And unless you are 5 years old, this film isn't being made for you. The only great Star Wars film was Empire Strikes Back, not produced by Lucas, and which he found to be too dark.
I worked there. We were in constant disagreement with management all the time. Their business plan changed monthly. Here's some of the things that went on:
1. They didn't want to be a 'software' company. Only support. Yet, our focus in the office was always about getting the next 'packaged release' out the door.
2. We only were to provide support for PostgreSQL. Not for converting the customer's existing system over to it. Biggest mistake I thought we made. The only way this could work was for a new company without a previous database system.
3. Red Hat didn't steal our business. We actually had no business until July of last year. In fact we didn't have a VP of Sales until last February and it took him a few months to get his staff together. July was the first month we sold anything substantial and August was much better. We were on the verge of making something special when the investors got cold feet because of the stock market. (So much for their word on "We're not in this for the shortterm. We have a long-term stake in this company.")
I still get a sick feeling over this. This was my 'dream' job. A high-tech company in my hometown. I still miss the place.
If George Lucas is involved, its going to suck. The only one that was truly great was Empire Strikes Back, which he didn't produce. It was so dark. His productions are aimed at 5 year olds. Basically cartoons.
The reason VHS won out over Beta was because Sony wouldn't give rights to other manufacturers to build Beta machines. Kind of like Apple vs. IBM in the computer world.
If so, who the hell cares? If you're crazy enough to use that crap, then you should expect garbage like this!
Some jerk gave me a negative score a while back and I've been stuck in 0 score ever since.!!
Help meeeeeeeeeee

How much money do you have to waste 5 years in court?

How about Carbon Leaf [carbonleaf.com]
Where have you been living? In a cave in Afghanistan?

This is just my opinion.

There will be real testing only because the defense industry will insist on it.
We The People. If this law passes, it should be changed to We The Corporations
By having Celine Dion's cd not play on computers, the RIAA has done us a favor!!!

The states and the DOJ are trying to get stuff taken out of Windows and now Sun is trying to get something put in Windows.
Sun is setting a precedent. I think I'll write a language with a runtime and sue Microsoft to include it in Windows.

I can only wonder. Enron sure is getting plenty of time on the show. How about it Katie? Or did Bill's company help to pay part of your salary?
That show is hilarious! It's a good mindless show before I switch over to HBO at 9:00 for whatever is running at the time.

The companies also want to tell you WHAT music you can listen to. And HOW to listen to it. I don't call that choice.
