Yes, because I'm sure some Slashdot pudwhacker knows more about our contries laws than this judge does.

Honestly, most of the comments I see here about this issue are retarded. Let the legal system work.

You people piss and moan about all the freedoms that the government takes away from you, be thankful we have a legal system to examine and challege the actions that government bodies take. Otherwise, Ashcroft would guillotine anyone who wears a turban, the RIAA would be slashing your eardrums at night while you sleep and bill gates would be banging your sister.

Clearly, everyone's pulling for this, I know I don't want to get called during dinner, but laws are laws and they need to be applied evenly and fairly. You can't have you cake and eat it too.

Another exmaple of great torque early on are VW's 1.8T engines, which are rated for (depending on model year) 150-190 horsepower, but are incredibly strong right off the line. The turbo is actually ALWAYS engaged, but engages gradually more as the revs climb, giving the engine a very flat torque and power curve. "Turbo lag", as the term normally means, doesn't exist.

I have to disagree here. My girlfriend owns a 2002 1.8T Jetta with an automatic. It has a squishy torque converter and lots of turbo lag below the 2500 to 3000 rpm range.

When I drive it in heavy traffic, I find myself mashing the gas pedal trying to pull from a stop into traffic. I watch in horror as a fast car comes up behind. I lean forward into the wheel, when sudddenly at 3k, the power comes on and I get thrown back into the seat. Wheels spinning wildly, torque steering all over the place.

To make matters worse, the damn thing usually starts out in 2nd gear unless you floor it right from the get go.

The tiptronic is helpful, but it still shifts too slow and is nothing like driving a real manual or any of the high end semi-auto solutions.

Try driving a manual Mustang, Corvette, Camaro or any other small car with a big displacement V8 sometime to see what real torque is like. It's nothing like a jetta. Even my friends I6 Cherokee has lots of more pull from the bottom end than a turbo Jetta.

I guess the current politicians figure their only shot at getting re-elected is to disenfranchise the 60's generation before the kids who grew up smoking dope start replacing them with marijuana-reform candidates. Oh wait...

I'm not worried about this law passing--it would be political suicide (I hope) to support something so broadly unpopular--but you know how this works.

How broadly unpopular is it? People who vote generally have jobs and have expendable income, they can blow 20 bucks on a CD every two weeks and not worry about it. My dad uses filesharing, but if it's legislated out of existance, I'm sure he would buy CD's instead of changing his voting patterns. Frankly, I don't have the patience to sit and try to download a whole album (or even find the whole album). In general, if you listen to good music, you want the whole thing with cover art. The only people who don't care listen to shitty pop music. The main argument I hear all the time is "there's only one or two good songs on an album!". Maybe by artists whose songs get lots of MTV airtime...

You're living in a Slashdot dreamworld bubble. Who are these copyright reform candidates you speak of? I browse slashdot almost every day and I can't name a single one. I'm not suggesting they don't exist, I'm asking who they hell they are.

I believe they previously "hybridized" a Ford Escape, giving it ~40 mpg. That's pretty good, especially in light of the Excursion's 8-10 mpg and the original Model T's 25 mpg. That a car built almost a century ago gets better mileage than either of Ford's flagship behemoths is saying something rather sad.

What? Let's see a Model T accelerate onto a 65mph highway while carrying 8 passengers and towing a trailer. Other Ford vehicles have decent milage. The Focus gets 25mpg. Different vehicles for different things, you're comparing apples and oranges.

If you don't need an Excursion, don't buy one. I'll keep my 8 cylinder Mustang in the meantime.
