The/. community applauds when somebody cracks a DRM scheme, whines when individuals get sued, cries foul play when an ISP is asked for download records, and sneers at suggestions that the music industry is losing money to P2P.
What exactly is the/. plan for preventing 13-year-olds from stealing all their music from other 13-year-olds? Or should we just file this away as trivialities that won't matter when the grand socialist order sweeps away capitalist greed?
However, if you'd actually been paying attention, you'd know that the average number of enemies at any given point in time in games has decreased over time. Doom had far more opponents than Quake, and Quake had more than Half-Life, and Doom 3 will probably have fewer than Half-Life.
After reading this post, I was left more sympathetic for the Copyright Goon. Why, pray tell, is the Judge so hell-bent on ignoring the obvious conclusion?
Just a little logical nitpick here. You can actually achieve something by hitting the other guy really hard, since they'll give up or die, thus conceding victory to you. I'm not really being metaphorical here, and I'm not condoning violence, I'm just pointing this fact out:/
and you programmers are whining about how rough your lives are because you're getting paid to hit "next" in find&replace?
I have to ask, when you were trying to figure out a way to drive this point home, did you think maybe you couldn't found a better example of a comparatively enjoyable activity? Because that isn't exactly the sort of thing that makes Mom proud.
I think the point most people are making is that their jobs are mind-numbing in exactly the way you describe. Many such programmers might even relish the chance to speak with stupid people, if only to break the monotony. If you're of the crowd that suggests that anyone with a paying job should be happy about it, then I encourage you to grow up.
Very stupid people are aware that they don't know much. Somewhat stupid people think they know more than they do. Relatively intelligent people think they know everything. Very intelligent people realize that there's more to learn than they could manage in a thousand lifetimes.
I think we get the picture already. Users are easy to hate.
However, witnessing firsthand the smug, whiney, holier-than-thou attitudes of such a large proportion of the admin crowd, apparently they're easy to hate as well.
Too much out of their day? Out of the 15 sites they link every day, they can't be bothered with asking because of *time constraints*?!
Apparently it's more acceptable to them to knowingly blow sites out of the water (they even joked about it in this post) than to spend the time to fire off an email. The fact is, they don't even want to try.
If I had the power to slap a +5 Insightful on this, I would. But I see you have a handle on the kinds of posts those are reserved for.
Does anyone suppose there are links to organized cyberterrorism at play?
I will, thanks.
And good luck with your sanctimonious bullshit in the future!

This is the correct technical explanation for why the (currently) +4 Insightful poster doesn't know what he's talking about.
Hooray for completely unwarranted cynicism.

But still, we value your input.

It's not hard to create something unique. It's not hard to create something compelling and beautiful.
Hm... gonna have to call you on that one.
Isn't that ironic?
Somebody kill this guy in a horrible way before anyone with money gets any ideas!!

Wow. I'm humbled to be in the virtual presence of one as staggeringly intelligent as yourself.
I hate to break it to you, but I think you accidentally added " letter" in there somehow :/
You guys are a couple of jerks.
I just think this needs to be said.
Wrong. It's only symbolic if it becomes popular. Say what you will about their motivations coming from the world they observe around them.
As it stands, it's only a stupid idea that symbolizes how overall stupid this particular company is.
You know what happens if Israel doesn't have weapons? The various Muslim nations next door kill all the Israelis.
It's never "kids today" who are at fault, it's the "parents today" that are too fscking dumb to know what's good for their children.
Well then, I guess slashdot would learn firsthand about the slashdot effect!

And they considered incorrectly.
Hey you! Don't try to interject on this man's perfectly good anti-American propaganda!
