I use a horse, and I have no idea what riding in a car is like. But that being said, there's nothing wrong with horses, so it's pretty irrelevant to me anyway. I'm not switching.
There are braille bumps on the buttons for a reason. He would just have to learn the order of commands to get money out (ie. first enter pin, then press withdrawl, choose account, choose amount, press ok, etc.)
That does seem somewhat low. I've found that it's very dependant on the amount of vid memory you have. The difference between 64MB and 128MB on an otherwise identical card produces very different results. How much does that 4600 have?
I got around 1150 3DMarks with the following specs:
AthlonXP 1700+ Asus A7V333 512MB PC333 DDR ATI 8500LE 128MB DDR (latest drivers, can't remember the version) WinXP SP1/DX9
Do *nixen have separate access control lists on each and every line in those text files? MS uses a proprietary editor so you can do granular security settings on each and every key in the registry.
What, no burnt umber? You can't make a tree without burnt umber!!

Good point. 11b is more than enough for casual surfing and small file transfers. If you ever have a large file transfer (which I do periodically when I bring big files home from work and want to work on them on my big beefy desktop), just walk over to the router (that laptop is portable right?), and plug in a cable. Do your transfer at 100Mbps, then unplug. Easy.
The picture was pretty obviously cropped down from 1024x768. The whole right side is missing. Those icons at the lower right that look like they should be the systray are actually his quick launch bar moved to the other side.
Cars don't come with service manuals, so why should software absolutely have to come with source?

Is it blacker than Hotblack Desiato's stunt ship?
"It's so... black!" said Ford Prefect, "you can hardly make out its shape... light just seems to fall into it!" Zaphod said nothing. He had simply fallen in love. The blackness of it was so extreme that it was almost impossible to tell how close you were standing to it. "Your eyes just slide off it..." said Ford in wonder. It was an emotional moment. He bit his lip.
The choices are technically all there, and they're not THAT well hidden, so I think legally they're fine. However, it's still a dirty, slimy, evil way to treat your customers, and that's why I don't use RealPlayer.
The LANPipe doesn't run Windows. It doesn't even really run an operating system. It's actually, from the article...
Xilinx Spartan II FPGA (XC2S30) containing: Custom 8-bit CPU (10 MIPS @ 20MHz) with 16-bit memory interface 64k x 16 hardware FIFO (using external SRAM) I2S output (to DAC) and SPDIF output (digital audio out) Hardware timer and RS-232 transmitter (for debug) Firmware uses fewer than 200 assembly language instructions Assembler and remote status monitor written in Java
It just accepts a digital audio stream from a pc running windows and winamp, or the prototype "driver" on the linux machine.
Nah, sharpies are too fat. I prefer Staedtler Lumocolor permanent markers. The black super-fine of course, model 313-9. Very fine, very permanent, and also lightfast and waterproof.
Sharpies are for labelling your underwear when you go to camp.
What happened to Constellation 3D?

There was a company called Constellation 3D that was supposed to have something called a Fluorescent Multilayer Disc (FMD) with capacity in the Terabyte range.
You'll notice that their website no longer exists. It did stink of vapourware from the beginning, but I had a glimmer of hope that it would become something. Here is the most recent press release I could find on the subject, but it's from early 2001.
They said they'd have their terabyte discs out "within a year or two". Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until 2010 now...
Actually, my favourite dub was from the same movie. The little quiet black woman screams "Freeze asshole, before I blow your goddamn nuts off!!". The TV people changed that to "Freeze eggroll, before I blow your gosh darn knees off!".
Just because you don't know how to use a tool, doesn't make that tool bad.
A properly configured local policy can lock down exactly what you want to lock down, and affect only the users you want it to affect.
Also, in Active Directory, you use things called "Group Policy Objects" to apply policies to workstations, and it's WAY more powerful than local policies.
Why oh why can't I get Tivo in Canada? Tivo and basic analog cable is all I want. Actually, I could survive with basic analog cable and a VCR if I could get an interactive channel guide somehow. Tivo functionality would be a "nice-to-have", but I don't really need it. I NEED an interactive channel guide to preserve my sanity...;-)
"They then sold this to Santa Clara Operations (SCO)"
Actually, its "Santa Cruz Operation". Other than that, great post.
