This is so important to remember. Viewers really have the power. When you change the channel when the commerical comes on (something I'm guilty of) or when the news story has too much fluff in it you turn the set off and a read a good book (something I'm also guilty of) cost the TV companies real money - especially if you are counted in their ratings sweeps.
Actually one of the easiest ways to tell how many miles is on a car is to check the wear of the brake, clutch and throttle control - the actual rubber grips on the pedals.
I've driven at least two cars that had over 100,000 miles on them (my 95 sentra 117,500+ miles on it) and all the pedals are nice and smooth on the corners (like they have been pressed on a lot). Plus its a component that is rarely replaced - even on really well used cars.
Anyhoo - how is the above hack any different then taking the cable off the odometer? Its still a felony.
The question is bandwidth - how much bandwidth of electronic interference does the chip radiate? Probably not a lot.
Read up on the effects of narrow band transmitters on spread spectrum recievers and visa versa. Typically the frequency hopping mechanism can avoid interference with narrow band trasmitters and narrow band transmitters typically recieve low background noise when adjecent to spread spectrum transcievers. In summary the two devices can co-exist on the same frequencies and pretty much not interfere with the two.
This is probably why the USAF claims their awacs network is unjamable...
Is this a sun hardware feature though? I mean the other day (after months and months of uptime) I had a kernel panic on the machine (11 year old SS10 running debian linux) that is eventually going to route this submit.
Long story short I couldn't log in, but if I went to the console I could see the kernel messages (logged) and if I hit enter it popped back to the login prompt (didn't work though). Funny thing is it was still routing traffic and looking up dns names - despite the fact I couldn't log in or access the console. I eventually hit stop-a (full break for those of use without a keyboard/monitor) and reset the machine.
You need to study up some more - spread spectrum appears to narrow band radios as mere background noise. It shouldn't affect high gain weak signal work in the slightest:). n7wsb
Scientologists and Bukkake. Wow - I had no idea. What I'm trying to understand is why the scientologists would infiltrate various Japanese porn studios.
You have to keep in mind I started out today liking disk-keeper as an innovative product. Now thats taken from me they have to take away our porn too:(. Now they have finally crossed the line!
As long as I've known linux - since 93 actually (ran it on a 386dx40 with 4 megs of ram) it has always supported swap files - however they are generally not recomended - even today.
do you know how spread spectrum technology works? If set up properly only recievers with a certian psuedo random sequence would recieve their transmitters that frequency hop with the exact same sequence - which is probably why the usaf claims their awacs network is un-jammable. No the protocols won't save it - but spread spectrum will.
The beauty of spread spectrum is on narrow band recievers the only interference you hear is low background noise. I have no idea if 802.11 is spread spectrum or narrow band - but either way there's room for more devices on there.
The US government already gave the fcc enforcement powers and regulation powers through an Communications Act signed in 1934 - and this has been upheld by the supreme court several times.
There is an option though - work with tapr to develope spread spectrum technology using bandwidth allocated to amateur radio operators - at least those are somewhat protected (part of the 2.4 ghz band is for hams only - the rest is shared).
You know the easier way to remove bde view (the 3d advertising projector that eats up 80% of your cpu) is just to click on add/remove under add remove software (in the control panel) and poof it goes away. I've done this (under XP) - kaaza doesn't complain when it loads up either:).
If you want paypal's phone number (posted on here, but no-one seemed to care) its 888-221-1161 - and yes if you push enough buttons you will contact someone.

15 db omni directional antenna? Am I missing something here? In all my years an Amateur radio I've never seen an omni directional antenna that could do 15 db.
I think the reason why the fcc limits it to I think 6db is the effective radiated power for a higher gain antenna is in some cases (not if you're losing most it over the feedline, or that right angle adapter for the connector or whatever) exponential or in other words 1 watt becomes 10. You're probably losing a lot of gain on these cheap access points anyhow - just out of the way they are manufactured. But also 2.4 ghz is resonant with water and can make you blind or affect your eyesight at a high enough gain/power - and unlike amateur radio no-one makes you take a test to know that.
Just get one of those sima video copy masters (I found mine a circut city) I'm not sure if it will defeat macrovision 7.0 but it seems to be able to defeat macrovision that comes with most dvd players.
when I was in the laser club at community college we had a guy designing a ruby neon laser - when finished it could punch holes in paper and razor blades - and if you shot it at someone it felt like being hit by a rather nasty rubber band - even had a power supply you use with it to run it off 12 volts. Funny thing is it might be cheaper (today) to build a ruby optical laser then to buy this rubberband gun. We were famous for pointing those read neon lasers (siemens tube) at computer screens in the lab across the courtyard:) - never did see anyone use the ruby laser against them though.

You don't actually need a pc to do avantgo syncing with the pocket pc - just go under settings, connections, avantgo "sync" button - it will download all your cached websites off the net over whatever wire you have connected to it be it wireless (802.11 or cpdp), modem or hard wired ethernet.
Plus while you are online you can use internet explorer to browse the net just like your desktop pc.
Yeah, but I have the laser rotted (seriously) laser disk of tron - and I bought this before I found out how evil disney is - does this mean I can still watch the thx certified movies I have without feeling too guilty?

Some sattelites you don't want to de-spin - like phase 2 and phase 3 sattelites which spin with the earth (or at least they seem to). Of recent concern is AO-10 which apparently is de-spinning by itself. Actually I don't think anyone is too worried about AO-10 anymore since it is a sattelite literally plagued with problems - but it still works! (when its in sunlight that is). But you read about what guys did to get AO-10 and AO-40 running again its pretty amazing nasa like stuff.
Well - I for one can hear my video card on my sound card - so it can't be that good.
Last time I saw a spectrum analyzer on a standard at style computer it had a lot of noise in it. Not to mention the switching power supplies often used have a tiny bit of noise in them too:(.
I can actually hear my computer with most of my amatuer radio equipment (including hf) - its annoying too as I live in an apartment and I can't have external antennas.
I remember reading that in commodore hacking magazine trivia section - I always thought it was a classic case of commodore naming something them wrapping an acronymn around something.

Oh well I have my own irc server - where very few select people log on - most of them are hams anyhow.
would connecting to a irc server say be any different then using a phone patch to talk to a friend?
As long as they kept it clean I don't see what harm could be done.
Part 97 is just the fcc rules reguarding amateur radio use on specific bands.
