"Hey Tim, man, I sent you a case of deoderant because you stink! And you trade it in for some cologne? C'mon man, cologne only covers up the smell! Now you smell like funky Hugo!"

What, no Obv/2 software? In my last days of BBSing, most of the boards I was on were obv/2, of course, they were mostly art scene boards, but nevertheless, it should be listed. It was last in development by Murray Stokely (Shivan Bastard), the last I heard he works at cdrom.com for walnut creek.

Actually, as I wrote this I went a did a search on google for obv/2 bbs and found that as of 01/2000 it was still under active development. Here's the link.

Obv/2 came with some awesome default setups, all drawn by the main art scene groups, mainly Acid (Lord Jazz was awesome), and Ice.

    Just a little history.

    1) Clerk asks you 3 slow times whether or not this is a 'Good Good' bill. "Is this thing Good Good?"

    2) New to the Euro, its the FingEur; when using certain high denomination Euro bills, you roll the bill up on your index finger and cut it off, giving the sales clerk the entire package. That way if the bill is bad, they've already got your fingerprints! Though this sort of "copy protection" has already been broken, some counterfitters have already cut off all of their fingers.

    3) The new Lie-DetectEur is a Euro bill that has a white patch on one end, when you go to exchange it for goods or services, you place your thumb on the patch and say whether or not the bill is real. The bill has a powerful little ARM processor that does a variety of things; first it checks your blood pressure, cerebral cortex activity, and eye movement to see if you are lying. Then, it checks your bank account to make sure that just in case you ARE lying and this bill is counterfit, you have enough in the bank to cover it. The cash is then transferred into a special holding account (provided oh so thoughtfully by the bank) until the bill is used in another transaction.

    Alrighty, that's enough of that.

Kids today get to watch movies that are entirely computer generated, like Final Fantasy, and if the newest games graphics aren't the best, it must suck. And space, well, I guess it's going to take a little longer than we expected, eh?

Why not just have Surepay provide a really high bit crytpo key? Then you can encrypt the data once using this key, send it to them encrypted, and they can decrypt it. Since the data would be stored in an encrypted state, and THEY supplied the key, what would be the problem?

I went and saw LoTR last Wednesday and loved every minute of it. It was the latest showing at 10:30PM, and the theater was still pretty crowded. Taking into consideration that I live in Hawaii in a relatively low population area, that means that the word is out on how good this movie is.

I went to see it by myself, so I had no one to discuss it with, but as I was leaving, I glanced over the people I had watched it with. Most were staring off into the night with eyes gleaming, remembering. The frightening Nazgul, the oh so beautifully rendered Balrog, the horror of Boromir's betrayl, and the stern stuff that hobbits are made of.

Since seeing the movie, everyone I've spoken to it about has been heaping praise upon praise on it, and it completely deserves it.

I've also been following its rise on IMDB, even contributing my vote (10). When I voted, it was rated at 9.7, and listed at #6. If a movie deserves to be #1, this would be it.

    1) Abolish ownership of all domain names, and replace it with a system of 12-month leases, issued by auction.
Jesus, wouldn't that be hell to maintain? Imagine having to be the person to update potentially millions of DNS records every 12 months? Imagine having to pay to have the same web address every 12 months, and because it's an auction, your competitor can bid on your web address and force you to spend more money on something you already have?

I'm for exactly the opposite, buying a web address and from then on, it's YOURS. If you don't want it anymore, you can sell it. Leasing it does nothing but make money for the organizations who sell the leases, otherwise they have no use what-so-ever. DNS issues would/should be taken care of at your ISP.

Is to coin a term based on the word 'bit':

1st: 'Bitches', this refers to 8 bits.

2nd: 'MegaBitches', Obviously, in oldschool terms this would be a Megabyte.

3rd: 'GigaBitches', following the entire byte-to-bitches theme, this would previously have been a Gigabyte.

Some suggested slang based on 'bits-n-bitches':

'Slap'N'ThemBitches', this is what you do when you add any amount of space (memory or harddrive) to your computer.

'StankBitches', bad RAM or a crappy harddrive.

'BadAssMofoBitches', this is any amount of space greater than what you have.

'UglyBitches', this is typically an embarrassingly small amount of space, so much so that you don't tell anyone that's how much you have.

Thanks to our so hip words, now your everyday average IT guy can have a conversation like this with his boss:

"Yo man, yesterday I found some UglyBitches over at the office, and yo, some of them were some StankBitches, yo! So I got rid of them StankBitches and got me some BadAssMofoBitches, and yo, I slap'n'themBitches early this morning. That shit was shweet!"

CmdrTaco, why on earth would you want to have a 20,000 song playlist? I can see having that many mp3s, and even wanting to load them all in the same playlist, but damn, what happens if you have an alphabetized list and you're listening to something in "A", and you want to listen to something in "S" ? You're going to be holding the down key on that remote for a LOOONG time. This leads me to an idea, maybe at some point in a high number of songs, your playlist should (maybe it already does, I don't know, I don't have anywhere near that many mp3s) instead of displaying the name of every track, to instead just display the album titles, then when you select an album title, it expands to a song list. that would cut down the listing from 20,000, to probably less than 1,000.

I guess the beauty of this product is that you could just modify the script and have it produce something like that.

  24. My PC Game Picks: on Good Games For Christmas? · · Score: 2

RPGs: Wizardry 8, this game is really really fun. The graphics are pretty good at times and pretty strange at times. (for instance, really really thick doors) Overall a vibrantly colored, fun game that will take a LONG time to beat. (This game almost plays like an FPS)

Strategy: Well, its hard to pick a favorite for this category, I like Civ3, but it can be pretty boring at times, so I also like Empire Earth (It's an AOE2 clone that's graphically pretty well done and from what I've seen so far, got a great amount of diverse gameply), and Star Wars Gallactic Battlegrounds, this game IS AOE2 with a Star Wars Theme, so if you like AOE2 and Star Wars, this is a must have. Heck, if you like Strategy and Star Wars, it's a must have. The campaigns take you through the ENTIRE Star Wars saga. On a side note, the graphics could be better, but the sound/voices are superb. Monopoly Tycoon is worth a look too, if you can get it cheap.

FPS: Return to Castlewolfenstein was a pretty lackluster single player title for me, so I don't recommend this game except maybe for the netplay. The netplay is very well done and seems to be the main reason why people are getting this game. But is it more popular/better than CS? I really doubt it. Aliens Vs Predator 2 is a really really polished title and expansion on the first, I recommend it just for the sheer size/diversity of the gameplay. Heck, it's fun too. Max Payne, I know it's not a Christmas/Holiday title, but if you haven't played it yet, well, bullet time is to die for. And, it has X-Box and PS2 versions of it coming out on Dec. 11th in the US. (I do know that Max Payne is a 3rd Person game, but it's an FPS, trust me.) The last title I would recommend for the FPS genre is one called Codename: Outbreak. It was made in Russia, but the gameplay is set in Montana, which is kind of funny because the members of your crew in the game are mostly Americans, but EVERYONE speaks Russian style english (grammar and accenting). But the FPS gameplay is pretty good most of the time, but can drag at others. Worth mentioning is the excellent sound/music, and really sweet weapons in the game. The Zoom on your gun also has an audio magnifier so you can listen to where you're looking. Sweet.

RTS: Well, I have to say, Battle Realms is an AWESOME game. Beautiful graphics, fluid gameplay, excellent voiced and diverse storyline, and hours and hours of gameplay. If all that wasn't enough, you can play with lots of people on the internet too. This game is a must, but it does have rather steep system reqs (req: P3 500, 128mb) But it's worth it.

Last, I can't WAIT for DNF to come out. I get a chubby just thinking about it.
