I stole this from the link in the article. The problem is, the second to last line is all that indicates "Exclusively licensed" (Emphasis mine), and it doesn't indicate what it pertains to.
The part that does mention AD&D indicates that it is being used under license, no mention of exclusivity.
Well, I'll say that DivX encoded from a DVD looks pretty awesome, especially considering that you're sometimes taking 6-8GB of data and making into about 700-800MB of data. With that in mind, it looks REALLY good then.
It all depends on how good you want to make it when you're encoding.
I'm worried about instituting something like lameness filters as it seems like as soon as you start regulating what your users post you have agreed to edit them for other reasons as well.
Slashdot has a lameness filter and I don't think it indicates that there has been other editing going on. Granted, it can hit at importune times, like when you're just trying to Karma whore and post a quick link to this or that, but it also does do some good, mainly by keeping the goatsecx man away.
Too bad they don't have a lameness filter on the submission box though, that would theoretically keep most Jon Katz articles from ever making the front page;)
The potential upside in reference to your question is that since the lameness filter happens before the comment becomes a post and part of the static page (atleast here on Slashdot, I'm not sure on your site, I don't have an account and you can't post unless you do), You probably won't be sued unless its by someone who's going to sue you anyway.
What if I want to run as fast as Carl Lewis? Or lift as much as Magnus ver Magnusson? Or swim as well as Matt Biandi? What if I want to be able to do all three? Who are you to tell me I can't?
Hmm, with today's gene therapy, you'd be lucky to be as fast as Magnus ver Magnusson, able to lift as much as Matt Biandi, and swim as well as Carl Lewis. Don't push it;)
They mention "illegal content" quite a bit, but I don't see where they define it. Then again, the Google translation left much to be desired and I did not read to the end of the article. Can anyone elaborate on it?
Side note: It would be most strange if the "illegal content" was pornography, from what I understand, prostitution is legal in Germany. Most would say that is morally worse than a little pr0n. (Me, I could care less).
The virus can be sent to the suspect via e-mail -- perhaps sent for the FBI by a trusted friend or relative. The FBI can also use common vulnerabilities to break into a suspect's computer and insert Magic Lantern, the source said.

The irony is that you're using a "bad" (Microsoft) machine to do cool (Mame, open source) stuff. Now if only we could play this without a development kit/box, which I think you will need.
While reading the first article, I was struck by something strange:
In the picture of the Bob UI, it shows a little dog who has a caption bubble coming from his mouth. Well, in WinXP if you do a file search (hit F3), you'll see an almost identical dog. Maybe Microsoft thought that Bob was ahead of its time? Anyway, it's strange.
The issue wasn't that it made Quake 3 faster and nothing else, the issue was that it made it faster by degrading it's visual quality, and did it without informing the user.

Who plays games with a keyboard? Get a gamepad or a joystick.
Wow, you must suck at Quake or any of its many derivatives. Heck, pretty much the only games you should play with a gamepad/joystick are sport sims or flying games.
Last, who wants to have to cart around a gamepad/joystick in addition to all of the other crap you have to have to make your laptop work the way you want it to, just so you can play a game?
Finally! I've got this great program I've been working on, I'm not going to disclose the ultra secret source code here, but let me tell you, It's awesome. You run it and it displays:
Microsoft's rule over our calendar is no more! No longer will we have MSJanuary, WinFebruary, XPMarch, etc.
And no, Bill Gates was NOT born on Christmas!
The whole basis of your argument is that they didn't test it for two weeks, well, my question is why would two weeks matter?
Why would Anthrax have completely disappeared in that small amount of time? Even if it were no longer potent, it should still be THERE.
The part that does mention AD&D indicates that it is being used under license, no mention of exclusivity.
Can anyone clear this up?

Just my 2 cents.

I guess its all moot anyway.

Basically, here's the gist of what Carmack said:
Uhh, it's bad, but don't quote me on that.
I knew those Aussies would come up with a way to get rid of that Goatsex guy.

Why not get someone to call the special hotline to see what they say?
They if anyone should know the real deal on this.

based on the title, I thought this was some sort of expose about how adult film stars are losing chicks to the web developers. Sheesh.
What they meant was that they couldn't run any defensive "simulations" by playing Madden 2002. Doh!
