    Minor and offtopic contention point coming up:
    Teeth are alive, at least according to a stomatologue friend of mine. They are irrigated by blood vassels and have nerve endings through them. They even regenerate, albeit in an extremely limited fashion. Once the nerve is removed the tooth is truely dead and will be destroyed in a limited amount of time. A more appropriate example would be the hair, which is dead matter, although it is growing because the root keeps adding to it.

    Atheism is not a religion and don't try to spin it as such, you fuck. If it was I'd have my own Church of Latter Day Atheists or somesuch and I'd demand the tax exemptions that churches have. Guess how well that would fly. Atheism is not a religion and is not considered a religion by any state when push comes to shove. This is only a silly argument spouted by bible-huggers who feel opressed that not everybody is kneeling before their cross.

    The fact that it specifically mentions evolution shows clearly that it was intended to promote a religious point. That is why it was declared unconstitutional. The degree of hypocrisy from religious people never ceases to amaze me.

    More to the point, I could jut tell him to use Winamp. It's been supporting ogg for a good while now. So your example stinks. Not to say that if a guy would treat me like a leper as you suggest I would most certainly not call him my friend. And since when is a codec so important? I use what I use, you use what you want, if you borrow me something and I can't play it i'll ask you for the codec too. Damn, is it really such a big deal?

    Yes I have a right to privacy even if I am in public. And nobody is going to fine me if I wear a hooded jacket and my face isn't visible at all times. They will fine you when the RFID chip is not working.
    The people that are up in arms are the one that clearly see the potential for abuse this system brings. No matter what the intentions are, the system will be abused eventually. I bet you wouldn't like to be on the receiving end when it happens.

    I think you are missing the point why this tags are going to be introduced in the first place. Because they will be cheap and very easy to monitor. Unlike using a video array. And your spouse or company are not going to consider if they have enough reasons to be suspicious of you and hire that private dick. They are going to be monitoring you all the time, just in case. And the cost for doing so will be insignificant, so they will.

    But don't you see this is exactly the root of the problem? Google is making those decisions for the rest of us.
    And it is censorship. It's limited of course to Google, as the site itself is still available, but it is censorship. Google is modifying its content to specifically deny the access to a particular piece of information *on Google*. This is censorship.

    Why do you consider that you have to take out those countries that are owed bilions by the iraqis? FYI, some of the your so-called allies have bilions there that they will probably never recover. Just because this could be a reason, it's not the only reason and it's not the most powerful reason why those countries are opposed to war.
    As to changing the islamic culture - this is a very arrogant thing to say and impossible to do. What would you say if they offered to change your culture? The result would be just about the same, if you stay and think about it.

    I had the same problem with NTFS and ext2. What i do is use ext2fs (http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/ext2.html&e= 42) so I can read my Linux partition from 2k. This way I don't have to keep an extra fat32 partition around.

    The spyware is only for the pro version of the encoder (so it could still be free for those who do not want to pay for it). The decoder, as well as the standard version of the encoder were always free (as in beer) and non-spyware.
    I'll give you the bit about it being proprietary, though.

    about an unbreakable pure glass CD. The idea was that it had no metallic reflective surface, relying on the simple reflection of the glass. Therefore it needed a more sensitive diode than those found on regular CD-ROMs to be read. Also it used an expensive process of enhancing the pits after it had been stamped , and the data was guaranteed to be safe for more than 200 years with no maitenance or special storage whatsoever. And this was sometime at the beginning of the 90's.

    Wrong! They want you to know that the resaurant is there. That way, when you want to go someplace with your workmates or somebody else you can say "Hey, I think there's a restaurant not too far from here.". They do look for impulse, ideed "I'm hungry, let's stop here" but awareness of its existance is more important in this case.

    Is MacOS running on x86? Why do you think that there are ports for IE and Office in the first place? Macs are a different market. The same with the recent ports of IE. If Linux had IE and Office there would be no big deal for businesses to switch to Linux and avoid paying the MS tax. OK, there would, since it's not so easy to get PCs without Windows preinstalled. But IE and Office are just one more barrier to the wide adoption of a non-MS OS.

    I can choose not to install Netscape in any distro I know. I can choose not to install KDE also (but I do because I like it). It's not the fact that IE is there, it's the fact that I can't get it out if I'm not going to use it anyway that is annoying. As it's been said (literally) a million times here it's about having the choice.

    409 may be the area code for Texas, but I think you should count the digits. It's like this: 40-International code for Romania 93-Code of the cellphone service provider CONNEX 462828- 6 digit phone number-the standard for romanian cities, except Bucharest - 7 digits

    Great! I'm from Romania and I'm delighted to see the great minds come to work on Slashdot. This is (probably) just one person. He has a permanent Internet connection available, which means here either he is rather rich (these things aren't cheap here, you know) or is a student living in campus. Things like "Bomb Romania" or "Let's bring their Internet connection down for two years or so" don't really help. And they shouldn't be at +1. And, FYI, the gipsy population here does not exceed 5%. Most of them don't use computers and I doubt that those who do would do such a thing. This is because someone here mentioned "armed gypsies".
