A lot of you are missing the point - by operations they mean people who don't know anything about the business side of things. They only know how to build a server and install vendor's or in-house software. Thanks to automation (scripted and imaged installed), companies don't need to have droves of installers, troubleshooters, tape swappers and hardware builders)
Need a server built? Pop a card into a blade system (HP) that can hold more than a dozen of them, plug into the network, image it and you are done. One of them is not behaving right because of corrupt software? Re-image it in 20 mins. HW problems? Send card back to manufacturer or throw it out.
Majority of IT people 20 years from now will need to understand company's processes, business logic and dataflow. Knowing what will be affected by the latest software upgrade will be more important than knowing how to install it. Does the new patch modify the database? Was its schema or stored procedured and functions affected? What's the bottom line? Are calculations now incorrect and will it impact your company's billing or payment cycle? Will you lose clients', patients' or customer's history records by changing the system? Future admins, (today's architects) will need to know all of this.
The best and most recent catastrophic example of failure that resulted (or helped) in a sale of the company is the Local Number Portability upgrade at AT&T Wireless. If you have time, look it up.
Sony has a $70k projector that is PERFECT. But for those of us who cannot afford something like that or even $1k projector, this is perfect. Now what nerd doesn't have a stack of old laptops that couldn't be used for anything...until now. 15" TFT LCD can be had for less than $300. keep checking slickdeals.net - they just had a 15" lcd for less than $200. Hey, I am sure they are doing it in the name of national security! Their plan to catch Osama was to flood Afghanistan with cheap Lexmark printers and hope that he or one of his buddies buys one. Then wait until Osama or one of his followers prints his digital camera pics on one of those printers. [Assume anyone in Afghanistan who can afford such a printer has Internet access as well] It should not be that hard to match and existing [reference]photo of Osama's face (embedded in that DLL file) with one in a solo or group photo. It's not that hard to track someone down once you have their IP address. Don't forget about the $20million reward! The right way to do this would be to trigger data upload only if match was found, otherwise sit quiet. OK, that was movie-of-the-week fantasy, but what they could have really done is monitor anyone scaning or printing $20 or $100 dollar bills. Doesn't Photoshop alert you if you are trying to scan US currency? (or is that another urban legend?)
Buffalo is pretty good. Have you seen their Japanese website? http://www.buffalo.jp/ They have 1 GIGAbit network storage available where in US only 100mbit version is avail right now. Also, they have some interesting DVD players that stream from external HD. (which btw looks WAY too much like my LiteOn dvd/divx/mpeg player) I guess it's true that Japan is the best test market for gadgets, electronics and toys.
I use it at work, home and school. Since only management gets color blackberries, this is a cheaper alternative (Amazon had it for $50 if you signed up for a year) Also, all Instant Messaging conversations are logged at work. Same goes for email. Inside and outside the house - friends can always IM me, send e-mail,etc. Movie times, restaurant finder, directions, web browsing, etc. - all useful stuff. In school I use it as a dictionary and an encyclopedia.
www.mini-box.com m100 I bought one for my car. It's energy efficient and quiet. However, it's not fast enough to play games. No problems running winamp, navigation software and web browser/802.11 at the same time
Hehe, one of my teachers used an analogy yesterday to make a point and help students relate to what should be common sense - Upgrading your PC with the most expensive and top of the line CPU, motherboard, sound card, HD, etc. but buying the cheapest video card (or keeping your old one from 3 years ago), is like putting a $300 Aiwa stereo into a $150,000 Bentley.
In Microsoft's case, they found perfect partner to match their "quality"
Money that China would have spent on space/moon exploration will be spent on pacifying Taiwan instead.
While this is bad news for Taiwanese people, I applaud China's dictator/president on concentrating on things that affect China. Here, in USA, Bush is concentrating on problems millions of miles away. For example, how to make drinkable water on Mars...once and IF we get there. How about working on cleaning our lakes and rivers here on Earth, so that everyone can drink tap water without fear. Same goes for air quality.
Engineering universities will most likely require that you complete at least Calculus I, II and III. Also linear algebra, statistics, etc. Why? Tenured professors who don't want to learn anything new, school's need to keep you busy for 4 years, school's need to make $ or get state funding, etc.
If you went to college that didn't have any engineering or science programs, you would be taking a lot of humanities, writing, literature, business, management and word processing classes. It's whatever they have a lot of.
What I want to know is WHERE did they take those photos - they look industrial and abandoned! Look at the desk - it has paint splattered all over it, the floor is filthy, old furniture. Move over WeirdNJ, time for Weird Sweden!

There are TONS of smart and attractive Indian women with MDs and PhDs trying to get into this (USA) country...
So what you do is the following:
Go on a trip to India and get married to a doctor.
Come back w/ wife or come back alone and file all the necessary paperwork to allow your new wife enter US legally. Why not just send her a visa? Fiance visa will probably be investigated and visitor visa for her to enter US will definitely be denied, especially from India. So you will have to get off your ass and actually visit the country (you plan on living and working there eventually, don't you?) and get married there.
Support your wife for 6 months or more in US until she passes US medical licensing exam and has her MD degree recognized in this country. Then she will have to complete her residency at a hospital and hope that they will hire her.
Once she's set, you can move to India buy a nice condo for $30k. Get a job as a programmer or whatever it is you do. Beg your wife not to divorce you and beg her to send you more money:)
If things work out, she may even visit you once a year...how does next January sound?
Learn to enjoy cricket, hot weather, spicy food, long soap-opera-like movies where everyone will suddenly stop whatever they are doing and dance in the rain...
Try to get along with her family...unless they disowned her or moved to US as well:)
Live long and prosper... and hope that one day your dual citizenship will let you vote.

The reason they are in trouble is because of their poor vision of the future. We (company of 40,000) looked at their multicasting technology and news delivery in 1997. We liked what we saw and wanted to license or buy it for the entire company. They said "NO" - Real still wanted access to our desktops in the form of ads. I guess they thought there was a lot of money in that.
Think logically, why would any CIO sign off on a product to keep his employees busy watching ads instead of doing real work?
They did crawl back (at least a year later) and try to sell just the engine piece but no one was interested. There was better stuff available out there and cheaper by the time they realized their mistake.
