I agree mostly, and with TiVo, you can record it and watch it however many times you want for as long as you want. The main reason I don't order many PPVs from DirecTV is because they are almost universally pan&scan.

I'd love to had an ad-free feed of my favorite networks. Studies have already shown that TiVo users are far more likely to subscribe to premium networks such as HBO and Showtime. Also, I think perhaps Taco needs to purge some inactive accounts.

The only way you can get the east/west feeds from DirecTV is to receive waivers from your local affiliates granting you access. If you can pull in even a fuzzy signal over rabbit ears, you will almost certainly be denied, since your locals want you to look at the local ads.

It is extremely difficult to get distant locals over DirecTV, unless you've been grandfathered in, "move", or hack.

Sprint just laid off several thousand employees from its HQ here locally. My guess is the staff that runs the abuse@ account were the first to go.

My question is, why are these things even listening on the external interface? I set one of these boxes up for a friend recently, and I couldn't find a single way to block tftp/telnet/http from the outside. What's worse, is that these modems are quite clearly running Netgear firmware, which by default doesn't not allow conections externally So, someone at either ZyXEL or Sprint actively decided that these boxes should allow administrative control from anywhere.
