Disney will release on HD-DVD. The worst possible news for the Blu-Ray camp. The Disney logo pretty much guarantees you'll make the top 10 in video sales and rentals.

Seems to me the worst possible news would have been that Sony is giving up on Blu-Ray for the PS3... people have to remember that the PS3 is going to push adoption of The Blu-Ray format SO fast. Even with the recent delay, they'll have 5+M Blu-Ray players in the market by mid '07. People are going to have to consciously go out and plop down $400-$500 for a single-purpose HD-DVD player, but they will be getting one almost as a "bonus" (sure, it does add to the price a bit...) with their $400-$500 PS3.

The masses are not going buy HD-DVD players (and hence any Disney titles on HD-DVD) until they have HDTVs *and* HD-DVD players get down to ~$200... but they will pay a LOT more for a PS3 ($300-400 XBox360 w/out HD-DVD - not to mention they are hard to get without spending much more on a questionable bundle - have sold over 2.5M already), whether they have an HDTV or not.

There have been some good films released over the last year, the same as any other year. There have been crap films released since the history of films. Your theory is therefore flawed.

Oh come on - this has been one of the WORST years for quality movies in a long time. Just look at the Oscar nominations this year. Yeah, individual movie opinions are of course very subjective, but as an aggregate they had a far wider range of reviews (ie a lot more BAD ones) than your usual crop of Oscar contenders.

Personally I would have picked *ANY* of the 2004 nominations (The Aviator, Finding Neverland, Million Dollar Baby, Ray, and Sideways) over this year's winner. Hell, I would have chosen Hotel Rwanda or Eternal Sunshine (which didn't even make the nominations due to the great crop of 2004 movies) to win over any of the nominations this year.

    A couple comments:

1.8 vs 1.5 is about 40% larger by area. The reason cell phones have more vertical pixels is that most of the UI is lists & menus... (not unlike an MP3 player!) Of course viewing photos/movies is different, but who wants to look at either on a 1.5 OR 1.8" screen??

"Janus" is just the code name for WM DRM. And you could argue "the iPod only ships with DRM compatibility with iTunes"... (it's somewhat of a tradeoff - support Windows & Mac for one piece of software and hardware, or support Windows only with multiple software and hardware). WM DRM is pretty useful when combined with Yahoo Music Unlimited...

Not that I am arguing that this player is any better than the Nano overall - I have a Nano and apart from not having WM DRM (the necessary evil at the moment to access several interesting services like YMU) it's damn near perfect at what it tries to do...

Anyway... Halo 2 was written for 640x480 graphics on a 700Mhz P3 with a Geforce3 (approx XBox HW). PC tech is SO FAR beyond that now that suggesting a level of hardware required beyond current games like Far Cry, BF2, HL2, etc is just ludicrious.

Maybe if they said "Halo 3" and showed off some insane new demo videos I'd be impressed... but to be blunt: WHAT THE HELL??? The Xbox 360 will have been out for over a YEAR before this old game even gets released on a PC.

ISP service is now a commodity, their differentiation is so minimal. Content is the key.

What? This is a huge exaggeration.

I have had my Sony earbuds for about 2 years and they are still in perfect shape. I have recommended them to 2 other co-workers, both of whom have owned them for almost a year and still love them. I bought some for my mom last year, she thinks they are a huge improvement in comfort and a decent improvement in sound over the stock iPod's.

The nice thing about these compared to many other earbuds (at least 3 I have tried) is they are really comfortable over a relatively long listening session. You can wear them for hours at a time and they don't hurt your ears. Now, I'm not saying earbuds worn over several hours (especially with the volume way up) don't DAMAGE your EARDRUMS, they just don't hurt your ears...

Like any product, I'm sure there are people who have bad experiences, but *my* experience is 4/4 in customer satisfaction... especially for the price!

I know a couple guys from college who played pro football - I would be surprised if they ever made more than $300k a year for all of the 3-4 years they played before getting injured and/or cut. Luckily they were smart guys who actually got something out of their free college education so went onto I-banking, various entrempeneurial activities, managing family business, etc. But the majority of ex-players who weren't as educated or connected can have a really hard time...

In any case, I disagree, and I think most people would after a bit of thought, that "commercial entities are by their nature amoral". Corporations are still led by PEOPLE.
