Besides telling you to put the tin hat on, I'll agree with you. NASA is a government agency and like other agencies has learned to vallue of understating goals and objects just incase something does happen.
50bln their hoarding back to the people the stole it from I dislike M$ as much as many people here but I wouldn't say they stole the money. People have a choice of what to buy. Did a car company force a person to buy the $50,000 SUV and get 10 miles to the gallon? How about the DSL connection, sure you might_want_the speed? Go ahead and argue that most people only know of M$ and it's a business standard blah blah blah.
It comes down to everyone has a choice.
Linux and other OS's are better known these days but still have to burst that bubble. Plus it is hard when you have patents flying like reasons for going to war (dooh!) but the are choices out there.
No matter how much you want to argue fair use and all, the bad apples stillscrew it up for everyone. All it takes is one nimrod to copy and sell some DVD's and you give Hoolywood a fight. Take money away from a giant and he'll step on you.
Also going after a older man who doesn't know so much about Linux and computers as we do, you only help fule their fires on how imature the "geek" culture is in the eyes of these rich powerhouses. It's bad enough that you can't talk to a senator unless you front some money, but pissing off the people who do will only close the doors of any future visits.
Linux is not a religion, it's a kernel/os/free programs. There might be ideals behind the source, but it is not a scdripture on how to live life. Granted some might argue different, but everything need an extremist. Next thing the person wil give up is sex, because the military uses it to procreate!
Just don't think all that money is going to the men and women in the military! Most of that is going right back into some contractors pocket! Think about it. Even though the military budget is getting bigger, they are still cutting the number of service people and still close bases to "save money".
Yeah but you forget one thing my friend. Bush doesn't do this by himself. All of aids do most of the "Homeland security", and the money givers help guide them. Hitler did everything on his own, and then told everyone else what to do.
At least Hitler didn't have a V.P. that was always in a disclosed location.;-)
If the average Joe's computer is cut off, how will they then get the "stuff" needed to fix the computer? Go to a neighbor and ask "Sorry but I was cut off the Internet cuz my PC has some virus, can I use your connection to get the needed update?" that is if they even know how to do it.
Sure there needs to be some control on everyone part, how about making a system the if an infection is detected then an email service will notify the person on how to correct the the problem and if after 15 days no action is done-then cut them off.
What they are doing is offering a service for a fee, a service they know many people will buy. They are also passing the responsibility onto the user to "be honest that they are using the information for legit cause." Plus they make you fax some form and have a company employee verify the data. I'm sorry but I'm sure they will have a minimum wage or slightly better person to "verify" these requests. It just seems like a company even though is legally correct it putting the burden of proof to the user, are just making a bad decision for all consumers. Like many will say, this will make it allot easier to track people down, get some revenge, and do worse things.
The government isn't taking your liberty from you. Your fellow citizens are. They are responsible for voting your government into power.
Yes and no. True, the citizens should go out and vote, but the government should have the moral obligation not to even create such crap. It is easy to say "The people should vote." But how many times do the people get to vote on these issues? Sure we can vote for the people in office, but once they are you can't do crap. So you say write an email, well lets hope their spam filter doesn't cast it away. Snail-mail maybe? Nope everything will be voted for by the time some unpaid intern gets you letter to decide if it is worthy of viewing. Voting is the first step, but the people in government charged with protecting the people rights and acting for the will of the people should do their part as well. Any time a person can accept money to help influence a decision their integrity and the integrity of the system is compromised. Let these people earn only their paycheck and not the money from businesses and other rich sources.
This is only a plan. It will take a while for some "people" to come up with actual standards, then depending who is in office, give the bidding to certain companies. Then when the companies have won the bids then we have to give them billions of dollars to research and build some prototypes. Then after ten years of vigorous testing and many flawed attempts the military will by "more stuff" from the company in the hopes that something will come out of it. In the end some company will get very rich, so high brass will get the cool points and they will cut the number of troops because of the extensive costs related to the program. Kinda sounds like the f-22 and xf-35 programs now, just with a higher money potential.
especially if it's only got one guy- versus a whole group of some of the best Linux programmers around.
To start having one person is what might be needed. With so many talented programmers it is hard to agree on stuff. It is a big issue to stay on track not to go crazzy, but that is how ideas are born. You need to get the hell out of the box step down from the thrown and just freaking look at things a different way. The great thing about open source is you can take ride and the wild side , fall down, and continue on. Hack all you want but sometime you just need to let it go.
I must agree that my natural instinct is to applaud these people for taking the situation into their own hands since no one else will. Cellphones are a great thing because they allow communication to be easier. But the evil side of Cellphone is overtaking the practical. Besides the triangulation, 911, and other emergency calls being a necessity; we have people in a movie theater, restaurant, or other normally quit place invading the silence by utter (moo) rudeness. No law can compensate for the inconsiderate or the out rite obnoxious cellphone user. I do support, however, businesses that use a cell blocker and make it completely aware to all who enter that a "blocking system is in use."
Obviously you Canadians didn't learn a damn thing from America! You never-ever give the people so much freedome with their information. Who knows what the government or worse, businesses cannot accomplish without that info.
That is all this is. I'm old school here but WOE would anyone want a laptop for gaming? I thought that whole purpose for a laptop was to take you work with you. I did'n now you needed a $2k+ laptop to run some office suites, and do some graphics work. If you need anymore your work area should be more permanent. Besides if you are worried about a 1-3 hours plane ride how about reading a book? Cheaper yet can also be fun too.
WTF? I must be on crack! Why on earth do I not want to take UT2003/4 every where I go?
P.s. I would be to scared to let it go through the x-ray machine and have a TSA person keep me back cuz my freakin shoes look funny.
You know I still have a c64. Good got that out of the way.
I noticed that there are still Demo groups out there, specialy in Europe. I must say I'm still impressed as to what these programmers can do on a little 8-bit CPU. It think it's true are and skill to pack so much "entertainment" into a small amount of memory. Just because the CPU might be so many years old, but it can still do so much. Proof I think at the fact that technology may be increasing so fast that we don't use it to its fullest potential.
Well some people have tried selling linux gear with modles in the pictures...but it's not the same as having a nice looking woman at in installfest showing you how to install your software onto a hard drive. Any how smart women are sexy.
Meanwhile, all the poeple running for President that are against the Patriot Act and PA II have dropped out of the race, or can't sell their souls to the devil to call themselves Republicans or Democrats, and therefore have zero chance of becoming President.
Well put my good cyber-writer. This also leaves one more issue, people NEED to vote on more than just the presidential spot. To "nip it in the butt" we all need to pay attention to our local politics and vote there as well. How else do you think Bush become a Governor? How do you think we_elected_ our senator and congresspeople? You have to vote more than once presidential election to say you care about American politics. And as also stated above there are many honest and loyal people trying to make a difference-they are just not getting the back up from the voters that they need.
Just shows how hard bad PR can hit ya. Like everyone said amazing that it is all free MS stuff. I like the free training, while they are there how about pitching in to pay for the test you guys. Would it not be cool to see this kid turn in to a white hat linux hacker after all the free stuff. oh well I'm glad he won his lottery, and I hope he doesn't get blacklisted from any future jobs that deal with MS.
Besides telling you to put the tin hat on, I'll agree with you. NASA is a government agency and like other agencies has learned to vallue of understating goals and objects just incase something does happen.

Work just great for me. I don't need anyone else to help me look for my data.

These prices are starting to fluctuate just like gas. If this keeps America might have to liberate some more poeple.

True but it never hurts to use some "petty-cash" to pay some one to do it either. And we know it is not past them to do it.
Shipping and handling: Free Shipping (within United States)
You'd figure for 6 Million this would aply world wide.
Wish I had the skillz this guy has. He has one hell of a job to offord all those cool gadgets. Really how does he have the spare time?

If you left a good Email I would sell you mine. I don't play it and can easily let it go for a small fee.

Also remember that starting a business is Not for everyone.
That fact and the one about "You may fail, miserably." are two of the biggest things one should realize first.
Failure is a part of learning and success my not come in six months, then again it depends on how_you_mesure success.
Great point and I will put some of these in my notes!
