You mods are flamers. If this was an article about problems with linux and the parent thread suggested when was the last time Bill Gates had problems with {insert OSS problem here}, you would mark him flame or troll. Since it's an anti-MS statement you mark it funny. I hate MS and Windows (I use Linux and Mac only) but at least I am fair to them and treat all with an equal disdain. You people make me so angry I want to watch scat porn.
While it could be considered off-topic, I think the above post is actually quite accurate and should at least not be modded troll. Having used linux primarily for 6 years now, I am not too snobbish to admit that he's exactly right. We do put up with a great deal of inconvenience to use what we feel is a superior OS. And I do feel that linux IS superior, however, pretending that it's *easier* than windows or even close to as easy is just a straight-faced lie. It's that kind of denial that curbs advancements in the linux world because the users are so set that their way is right above all else.
I was playing at the local park and a man pulled up in a white van without any windows and was offering free candy. Suffice it to say, I entered the van and got my first taste of wii.
"The RIAA did not disclose the methodology they used to determine that filesharing is occuring on those local networks, but it probably didn't involve asking permission."
"probably didn't involve asking permission". That's about as good an argument as the RIAA uses to invade our privacy. We're probably pirating music because we're using lots of bandwidth and we're probably pirating because cd sales are down.
I am not a defender of the RIAA by any right, I hate them as much as any slashdot nerd, and I am not flamebaiting, but if probably is the kind of arguments we're going to use against them, we're making their own use of such reasoning sound reasonable.
OSX does come with a compiler and everything else you need to be compiling and installing source based software. It doesn't installit by default, because the average user doesn't need that stuff but if you pop in your OSX disc and go into the Xcode Development Tools folder and run the installer it will install everything you need, including gcc 3.3 and 4.0.1 and all the various libraries and such needed for building sources.
You're not being told that you cannot use Microsoft Office. The Government is also not being told it cannot use Microsoft Office. The subject here is how the _data_ will be _stored_. You can use Microsoft Office, but the files must be saved in an open format of some sort.
This shouldn't be surprising, but people don't seem to be mentioning it. Microsoft is trying to take the stand that "spyware is getting so bad, there's just nothing _anyone_ can do!". And they make this clear with the claim that it is PCs which cannot recover well from advanced malware (when PCs can handle it just fine, it's Windows that poses the problem).
They should take some responsibility for their own products from time to time. Avoidance of the truth will not help them in the long-run. They need to address these sorts of issues by the next Major windows version or people are going to continue to move toward the MacOX/Linux realms more and more.
Mod parent up. That's not a troll. What the hell is with the moderation.
His point is valid. The blanket statement that pornography "is harmful to minors" is absurdly assumptive. Sure, some content *could* be harmful to minors, but it's ignorant of those with influence to suggest that erotic material is inherently "bad" or "dangerous" simply because our over-protective society has decided it should be based on a sad tendency to involve religious values in law.
Segregating pornography to a specific TLD is not the solution to your problems, people. Educating children is.
The parent post is not a flame it's an insightful.
This is a doubleplusgood idea!

Why not save yourselves the effort and just make the front page of slashdot become a display for the digg rss feed?

Do we really need an article to tell us that email is a poor collaboration tool?
No.
What's with all the useless articles on here these days. Makes me wanna just troll because I am so bored here otherwise.

Slashdot told me so!
Haha well done Asshat. That was one of the better first post trolls in a long time. Long live trolling!
Wow, this is like Blink 182....only, if they sucked even harder than they already do.
CodeMonkey no like shit music!
Mod that up and spin the meat!!!
Wtf is livejournal, you ask? It's the website that separates the women from the flamingly homosexual.
At least it eliminates any possible ambiguity as to whether or not the Ubuntu distribution is designed solely for the homosexual community.

That's not a flame, you assholes. Man, I am sick of idiot moderation.

This is certainly a Good Thing.

This just in!
Everything Apple does is over-hyped. Wake up and smell the same old bullshit with a small hard drive and cpu upgrade.
Wake me when their chips manage to hit 3 gigahertz.
Wake me up when I give a shit about what Apple does anymore.
