I had to make my work laptop with XP on it look like 2k, I hate the XP look. Makes me want to barf. Oh well, I just need a few ssh shells to my E10k domains anyway.
Quality bitrate files? I rent CD's from the City Library and rip em myself with Lame. Of course I never listen to them unless I have that disk checked out.;)
I don't know about the facts of this case, but that is NOT how Gentoo's Portage system works.
I have the MD5 files for all the packages in my portage tree right NOW. If I install a package it download and checks the tar.gz up against MY MD5 digest files.if != we catch the mismatch package. At that point one would start searching for the problem.
You see the MD5 and the packages are downloaded at seperate times. I get my portage tree from one place and my packages from another mirror. Not perfect, but much better for Gentoo then you let on. And Gentoo DOES keeps the MD5 files for older packages on file..
Lastly: Gentoo is the most uptodate, bleeding edge DISTRO bar only LSF. But 2 days later I will still win with a simple emerge rsync
Maybe its your distro. In Gentoo it works like this "emerge kde". Everything compiles and I am up todate. No pain no muss, just a few hours while I sleep.
I upped my Series 1 to 143hr(1-120GB HD) at basic. I have 3 full pages(screens) of movies and all the shows I ever wanted to see. How much space does one really need. I could put a second 120 in there but I dont see the point. The only thing I record at best is NFL and I delete them after I watch em. I am not studying plays and formations so.... Time shifting live sports sucks if you know the final score anyway.
Not to mention that IBM has real server lines like RS6000, S390 and AS/400.(I forget the new names, old school... dont cha know) The last time I check MS does not even have a 64bit OS and what it does have only runs on x86. Not what I would want for my Enterprise Data Warehousing needs. Desktop maybe servers, No Way, MS costs too much and offers nothing for it.
Just like a crack dealer, the first hit it free. Everyone is too short sighted, they are not lookin 4 years down the road when MSFT pulls a forced upgrade on their ass. It's gonna cost em and MSFT will get all of their loss leader money back with spades(the CD's cost them 0.00$ anyway). Hey what do they care they will be outta of Office. It's the people who should make a stink about selling out their future. What about the Children? aahhh, as the say in the USA, screw them. THEY did not leave any Buffalo for me!
The mods are the best part of Quake3

I have Q3A for linux (RIP Loki) but anyway, the mods are the best. Quake3 sucks rocks but Urban Terror and Navy Seals kick some stuff. I like Navy Seals the best right now but it take all kinds. If you have Q3A sitting around and are sick of it you should try out some mods.
Yes, true, but I run at 1280x1024 with no virtual desktop. If I shift down to 1024x768 I get a virtual desktop and have to pan around. I hate that! I have found noway to disable the virtual desktop... someone correct me if I and wrong. I would love to make it go away.

Gentoo is great... I like being up to date on what I need. It does take some time to setup. An update works like this
#emerge sync -get the portage tree and md5s
#emerge -up world -see what needs updating
#emerge -u world -builds and installs
#etc-update -helps update your config files.
you will learn alot about libs and deps using Gentoo. Portage will help you out. I have nerver broken things too bad.
Lots of fun if you have a fast cpu.
One going support, would be my guess.
one DRM to rule them all and in the darkness bind them.
"You can launch all your applications from Outlook if you choose to."
And so can everyone else!
'closing the analog hole' ....
I would like to close their analog hole with my foot.
I am looking at the Zaurus. I might have to stick to the 5500. Thanks for the info. That is really why I am read this in the first place.

I thought SUN bought the E10K from SGI(Cray) and laughed all the way to the bank....
yea BSD or Slack .... that's the ticket.
What if you HAD to buy the coke to get a burger?

Oh joy .... Now I can give MSFT all of my clients information. In one fell swoop, I might add.

Hum .... I think the NFL bought a logo in Tivolution section of the Tivio Guide. I don't really think they care. IMNAL ... implied digital consent ?

I remember way back in the 486 days, I heard a joke that still rings true today.

I have a boxed set of ms-dos 5.0 on the shelf. It's the last version with the big book.

In the big picture 200k is not "a hell of a lot".
You should try Gentoo Linux. Try emerge xine. Thats it! Portage will download and build xine and all the deps for you. Easy as pie.
Would that not be, your friendly network neighbourhood four star general!!!?
