  1. Mirror Xenu on Google Relists Operation Clambake · · Score: 1

Just throwing this idea out there, but one wonders if as a community we start linking the heck out of xenu, or start mirroring its pages (with the xenu webmasters permission, of course) whether google would start indexing those pages in proxy. granted it might take a few months to get into the listings, but it seems we could treat this much as we did the CSS debacle to counter the CO($$$)'s arrogant and heavy-handed attempts to silence the opposition.

Government organizations more so than anyone else need a scapegoat to point a finger at when something doesn't go right. Free software is starting to make inroads into these types of organizations, but the root of the problem is the level of bureaucracy that has to be dealt with in order to actually DO anything in government. In the name of protecting taxpayer "investment", there is all sorts of documentation, testing, and basic criteria that have to be met, and while Linux and BSD are completely capable of meeting those criteria, they require someone like RedHat to actually do the legwork to get them in the door. Up until very recently nobody has been interested because of the level of nastiness that has to be dealt with; with the advent of the NSA's secure linux, however, this may be apt to change in the near and not-terribly-distant future.

I set my younger brother up with Mandrake awhile back at his request (he was tired of windows crashing on him every other day--to steal a line from Dave Barry, "I swear I am not making this up") and his problems have gone to zero, except that he can't figure out how to use the cdr software (not mandrakes fault--i checked it out when i was in his town a few weeks ago, it works fine, he just doesn't know how to use it).

Unless you're working for yourself, never EVER put company expenses of any kind on a personal credit card or check.

My company about two years ago drafted a new policy for expenses where the employee fronts the bill and the company reimburses the employee (thanks to some salesmen who apparently thought a couple thousand dollars worth of golf bills each qualified as a business expense). Shortly thereafter they expected us to start paying for our own hotel rooms when out on service trips, at which point i politely informed our COO that his options were to issue us company credit cards for expenses or service the out of town clients himself. He tried to give us some idle threats about hiring employees who would be more complacent. Thanks to the solidarity of our development/engineering team, he was faced with the prospect of hiring an entire development team and expecting them to maintain the monumental pace at which we'd been going in a two week period, while we all went to work for a competitor who had given us all standing offers.

Guess who is fronting expense money up front now?
