Fear sells in america. No one has vision anymore, it's purely politics and consumer spending that drive the U$A. Almighty Dollar, thy will be done...
Sad really, who knows if we would have become the world leader we (sort of) are today if previous administrations had been so blatant in repaying the people that put them in office (corporations, not the rural boobs that are losing their farm subsidies as we speak).
Exactly what's the big fucking deal. If you're a software comany, or hell any company now days you've got gigs upon gigs of data and backups. If you had to save it for X number of years it could easily become a burden. For example, one of my companies stores patient related data subject to HIPAA laws. If I have to store the data for 10 years who knows how much space that could end up taking, not to mention the greater likelihood of something getting lost in the shuffle.
As long as a company has a policy about document retention and follows it, it shouldn't matter if it is electronic or paper based. Now if you're intentionally shreading/erasing documents when you know they are under investigation that is illegal regardless of your policy.
Apparently you've never seen some of the stuff the Apple crowd likes to fake. The number one thing that makes me think it is a fake is the reflection on the front face. When was the last time you could remember a shiny video game console? I can't remember any. Kids are going to be rough on these machines and a gloss exterior would make it look like shit in no time when my 6 year old gets ahold of it.
Faking images isn't that difficult, motivation is the hard part. Why the hell would someone want to waste their time doing it? That lends to the credibility of the images. I'd give it a 70% fake and 30% real guess.
Personally I don't care because I hate the PS game controllers. The S-Controller for the XBox is by far my favorite (very similar to the gravis aftershock I have for my pc).
Good luck in the Republican dominated government. I thought Republicans were for smaller government? Guess that was just a "sales technique" to get them in office. Kind of like term limits.
Not exactly. It's easier to run a company with a conscience if it isn't publicly traded and has few owners. My company operates with the intent of integrity being our first goal. If you run a company without having sales people that lie, support personel that don't care an managers that only care about the bottom line, it's pretty easy to be successful without losing your moral compass.
My company isn't taking off as quickly as I'd hoped, but I'd rather fail and leave my conscience in tact and know that I did it the ethical/moral way. Our goal is to build mutual beneficial relationships with our customers, not to sell them shit they don't need.
Sales people push. Partners (what we consider ourselves) work to provide benefits. It's no harder to operate in a good manner than it is in a poor manner.
That being said, my first company failed (too green out of college), my second company is just running at break-even (it does provide some good community services though so it's good karma either way), and my third company is getting close to break-even.
I'd rather work for myself and make $20,000/year than work for (insert global corp here) and make $120,000/year. It's more rewarding and the stress isn't comparable. Most people don't realize that starting your own business is primarily difficult because it requires fiscal discipline and the ability to not be afraid of the umbilical (sp?) cord being cut from receiving a paycheck every 2 weeks or half month. In the end most people are 2 paychecks away from being broke anyway.
Employees are expensive but running a company with integrity is priceless!
I accept no DRM. If it is locked, I don't buy it. I guess I'm going to have to brush up on my disassembly debugging for strategically placed jump routines.
Not to mention administration. The biggest time-waster at my company is fixing users computers (hell sometimes mine included). Updating, upgrading, trying to hunt down and unreg all the gator entries,...
Administration costs are insane for large corporations. Thin clients make that task a little more manageable. Only problem is when the main servers go down you're killing not just one user but a whole organization.
Jobs cancelled all his previous outstanding options (amount not listed). Jobs then got 10 Million in Stock. More than $1. He now holds 10.1 Million shares or 1.23% of the company through Pixar. Steve Jobs holds stock in the value of 2.6 Billion dollars. My guess is a few million here or there doesn't matter anymore. Jobs was worth 100 million when he bought Pixar in 1986. He's done pretty well for himself. So before you start jerking him off for being a hero for working for a $1 just remember he will never need money again.
BTW in March of last year when he got the new 10 Million AAPL was at $25/share with the 2/1 split that makes it $12.50 for 20 Million shares. So he really got $1 + $250 Million, I'll work for $1 dollar if I get 10 Million shares. Those shares today are worth ~ 874 Million.
I'm tired of this $1 myth. Financial analysis isn't that difficult to do and Jobs is no Martyr.
Watch when they miss their next quarterly numbers. Not to mention when the dipshits at FASB require corporations to report stock options on their earnings. Jobs will take a pay cut or apple stock will tank. Not to mention the "insiders" selling frequently.
Apple isn't Microsoft in the most important way, revenue.
Time to buy apple stock was right before the release of the G5. I would not buy AAPL at all. As far as 5% it's very doubtful. For every good story I read about Apple I read just as many about them suing people and being a shitty company not far from Microsoft. I doubt if they won the game (like MS did) they would be any better. Hell they may have been worse.
Not to mention Napster is leaving out a huge part. People usually already own CD's that they can rip. I've got over 15 CD's of 192 kbps mp3's that are all legally copied from CD's I own. Hell I've even gone to the local used CD place and spent another 300~400 buying CD's that I own but skip on the last few tracks because of scratches. By ripping them to Wave & MP3 I'm pretty certain they will survive longer than the CD's thrown in the back of my wife's car.
I'm one of the rare exceptions that refuses to download music. Not ethically just time management and installing bullshit like Kazaa, etc.. fucking up your computer. I did however consider installing it in a VMWare partition but never got around to it.
I have no problem paying for music, I'm just sick of the fucking cartel getting away with monopolistic practices and charging $18 for something that is really worth $1~2
I have to agree with the previous posters. Anything you do on your own time should be your own. Start your career off right by telling them to fuck off. The sooner you learn to stand up for yourself the better off you'll do.
My company has agreements releated to what our company produces exclusively. If someone wants to write the "next big thing" while they are working for me (obviously in their spare time, not at work), I would encourage it. In fact I'm looking at implementing a learning/research day where people are on call for critial problems that need to be fixed but don't have to work on anything in particular on fridays. I will require a log of activities and a progress report (to be certain that the time is spent on something, not just playing Doom III, unless of course they are into game programming!).
My company has the attitude that you treat employees like they are #1. As a consequence it is easy to get them to respect and treat our customers the same way. I'd rather lose a shitty client than a good employee. Customers are easier to replace.
$400 a month T-1? Where do I sign up? The least expensive I've found is around $700 a month not including taxes.
The Columbia, Mo University is The University of Missouri not Columbia.
You're not taking time, you're taking daylight hours and moving them forward.
Donate to a local animal shelter (like the one I do). And get a tax write off to boot!

Amen, I hope this bullshit ends soon. Thank "God" that the next two fucking April Fools fall on Saturday & Sunday.

A well known fact is a cracker is a white dude in his mid 20's that posts on slashdot and has never had a date.

I always wondered if there were republicans/conservatives in Sweden. Guess I know for certain now.
That's aren't you. You're new around here as well?

It seems like McCarthy was a liberal by current standards. Land of the free my ass. Maybe if you're a corporation.
When I can download books on AutoCAD, C++, Assembly, ... Then I'll be excited. Romeo & Juliet is so 7th Grade.
Paradox & DB III were languages? SQL?
