I believe the Atom is underrated by Intel's marketing just like the Celeron was when it was introduced as a "budget" processor. I'm running Gentoo on my Acer One and compiling is many times faster than the eeepc 701. Its a very fast chip with high IO bandwidth. I believe all the bad hype is deliberate from Intel to steer consumers towards the higher dollar models. This chip is a cool cat as it runs more with far less power.
Agreed, I can't recommend the eeepc 701 anymore. My eeepc 701's limited screen seems like working with a Nintindo DS compared with my Acer One. Not to mention the hardware bugs of the 701, like the USB ports staying on when the netbook is off: this *kills* USB powered hard drives when the batteries fail. The Acer seems to have much higher quality than the Asus this time.
Maladjusted? I prefer to think of it as tradition. You should see the very first posts on slashdot. I'm user 3088, but number 1 holds the record and my admiration!
The summary reads "...Google claim they need to retain..." The use of *claim* rather than *claims* suggests that Google is being viewed as something other than a single entity.Am I missing something or was that just a typo?
I'm sure their partners will retain the good stuff.
Has it ever occurred to you if they know the camera is there & flip it off, that your actions are putting your whole family at risk?
I'm not afraid of drug dealers, terrorism, or the government. My life is too short to be afraid. Drug dealers don't scare police officers, so why should they scare me? I'm dealing with the problem to defend my property. If they want to retaliate, then the police will be interested. They are guaranteed lengthy prison time.
Don't worry. I have a drug house in front of mine. That means we get a lot of vandalism, theft, noise, car crashes, and a loss of sleep at night. So I bought a top of the line camera ($2500) to catch the action and turn it into the police. They like the pretty pictures of the drugs and cash trading hands, but after a few months, the drug house is still going strong:
Heh. How long did it stay up? Did it make it to the 100,000th slashdot visitor, or perish nearer the 1000 mark. Kudos for courage though...not many would dare flirt with the slashdot effect.
I can thank the poor bandwidth here in the USA to prevent the camera from melting! The Axis network cameras are pretty good about limiting connections and queing users in the control group. The camera runs Linux and it has an active development community, so I'm always free to tweak the settings if needed. These make great public cameras to play with....if I only had the bandwidth!
I put a few of the good pictures on a better server:
I can confirm these cameras DO NOT prevent crime. I have a drug house in front of mine. Lots of vandalism, theft, noise, and hooliganism. So I got a top of the line $2500 PTZ network camera. Here's my little story:
The camera did what I wanted it to do. It takes clear snapshots of the fistfulls of cash, the hits from the water bongs, and where they hide the goods. Great pictures. Gave them to the police. That was months ago. Drug house still going strong. Recently, the camera caught the guy returning from a bad hit and run accident and tried to hide his car in the back yard. The guy is still running around. If I bought the camera to watch a bunch of thugs, its working. To reduce crime, haha. They know the camera is here and wave their middle finger at it.
Here's my Axis network cam if you want to play with it:
I have an Embeddedarm ts7260 running at 200mhz that boots into busybox/debian bash shell in 1.3 seconds. From power on to telnet or a serial port terminal, that's 1.3 seoncs to a bash prompt. I can chroot into a full debian glibc in a second. It all depends on the optimized code.
I sometimes look at wunderground for wx here in Toronto, but that telnet server only works for the states. Too bad.
The wunderground telnet service parses most major airports. Check the city codes for your state. Chances are, there's one close to you. The great thing about the airport forecasts is they are good enough for pilots and choosing gear for riding motorcycles. The local television news seems like a political wordsmith case compared to the NOAA forecasts.
I can confirm this. I once posted how cozy my job position was to find how management reads slashdot themselves. Think like a spy if you want to be sneaky, because they are the ones making the rules.
The cheap $20 mp3/SD players on ebay work well. The only feature they have is to play mp3's. They are light enough to fit in your shirt pocket and can be dropped and abused. Search ebay for SD-MMC-MP3-Player-USB-2-0 to see the one I got

The way to fix this is customs duties and tariffs. Of course, trade is corrupt as hell and hidden deals are going to be made.

Next videos of people spitting on sidewalks will be banned. Then only people spitting on sidewalks will have videos. Or something.

Money is required to fight injustice. Most people aren't willing to retain a lawyer over something that isn't feeding their families.
Wow talk about a good way to get yourself shot.

Is it wrong to have quick and dirty arbitrary secure end to end connections?

Wunderground still has their telnet service. I've used it for 15 years:
telnet rainmaker.wunderground.com
and use their friendly text interface.

I'm sorry, but the Moon is a registered trademark according to the USPTO. Seriously. 9482 entries with "Moon"
