Indeed. The PHP 5 Beta 4 was released in mid-Feb, and they expect it to be the last beta before the final release - which can't be very far away...
The proper OO language constructs are going to be a huge boon, as well as all the other stuff.. and PHP *is* very easy to use;)
I don't code perl myself.. and at this point don't see any need to learn, especially with the threat of version 6 out there... it'd suck learning a language, and then potentially having to re-learn it a year later (or however long it ends up being)
Oh, and the registry is going away. Former registry content will now be distributed across directories into a new file type
Wait.. will they have...... a.ini extension???/me slaps hand to forehead
Halo is a very very poor PC port i'm afraid.. I have an Barton-code AthlonXP 3200+, 1GB of DDR400 Dual Channel RAM, nForce2 mobo and a GeForceFX 5900 and it's dog-slow... and its not like the game is visually stunning... it kinda looks... well about a year old.
Oh, and it won't run if you've got antialiasing turned on.
Amen. The other thing is that there is a lot of devices out there that still use the serial port or parallel port for comminication with PCs... not things like printers, but things like scientific testing equipment.
What happens when you can't plug these things into our PCs anymore? Will we see the return of the I/O card?
I think one of the major reasons for this is the Steam delivery platform... the servers were hugely overloaded and there were a lot of problems for a lot of people - I expect they're going to try and iron out some of those problems before HL2 gets put out
I don't know.. I haven't looked at Max Payne in a while, but doesn't it include a "Not based on real persons living or dead" type disclaimer in it? Such things have been on the credits of movies and TV shows for as long as I can remember...
Perhaps its needed for games now, to avoid lawsuits like this?
The problem is, in NZ, as far as I know, Software Images is the only game in town. In fact, they're an Australian company, but with a pressing plant in Auckland.
Users can attempt to steer the pendulum, but it will always remain somewhat unpredictable. At all times, the scanner/pendulum works as a TOOL that operates on the image below. Sometimes the pendulum acts like a kind of CHISEL or ROUTER, cutting grooves through images to expose other images hidden below. Repeated passes will widen these grooves until certain images become completely exposed and dislodged. At this point the pendulum becomes a kind of MAGNET, dragging bits of images along its path. At other times the pendulum acts as a kind of RADAR, updating the parts of the image that it swings over, or a VACUUM CLEANER, sucking up images; a distorting LENS; a BRUSH, a BROOM, and so on. These various functions are reinforced by the use of appropriate sound effects
.. even after looking at the pics, I can't decipher what the hell they're talking about.. let alone why the usual use of CAPS in the text..
Is anyone working on making E16 working with Gnome / GTK 2.x ???
I used to use Enlightenment all the time, it was my favourite window manager... but it very broken under Gnome2, and since I've moved to RedHat 8.0, I've missed it terribly..
The government currently has seven nodes running, said Marcus Sachs, director of communications infrastructure protection at the Office of Cyberspace Security, in Washington.

Why does no-one produce laptops with inbuilt trackballs anymore? I don't like either the little knob or the trackpad.. The knob is too fiddly, and I'm always brushing the palm of my hand on the pad..
Depending on the version you get, you can scratch your 'choons using ProTools, or Digital Performer or your laptop/desktop - using your normal standard turntables... the release dates day Q3 2002, but these have been seen demonstrated at the recent New Zealand Music Convention.. and apparently it wowed those who saw it...
... which all assumes your proposed game architecture sends the frames of video out to the clients.. which would be nice if you're running 386's for client machines.. its much easier to get the client to render the images..:)
However.. you do raise the point about sending other (ie non-game) video information over a network.. like, for instance for a movie production studio or the like.. but full-res PAL video is 720x576 is in size, so adjust the math accordingly..
At Weta, they use a variety of different boxen.. Linux (mostly), but also Mac, Irix, and a bunch of other stuff...
and after personally talking with one of the IT dept managers at Weta, I found they use a lot of perl for the same thing that most of us use perl for... writing cgi scripts which drive their intranet.. because intranets are cross-platform.
Its interesting to note that the Windows Q3A ran slowly when run through WineX.. seeing as Q3A is an OpenGL game, surely there shouldn't have been any noticable difference.. as no API conversions would have to be done, compared to a DX8 game, like Max Payne?

Have you thought about implementing your own copy of Sourceforge or (the much easier-to-install version) GForge ??
All of the rumored guys would be good as the next Doctor..
At least you know it won't be Ben Affleck.....

One major problem: CD-ROM drives are waay slower than harddisks.
Remember when people used to do "minimal" installs of games to harddisk and have most of the game content on the CD?
Doesn't really happen much anymore because the loading times are unbearable.
Some one please mod this up... I've got no points at the moment, or I'd do it myself...

Laptops need more balls! (pun intended)
They use Maya for modelling, and renderman for rendering.
